Hey Ronnie; Long Time no hear, good to hear from you again.Prior to Sig's unveiling of the GSR, one of the moderators on the Sig Forum took a tour at the Sigarms Plant where he was presented a sample of the GSR to test shoot. He provided alot of photos from his visit, including some good photos of the pistol. The Sig forum was going crazy over this pistol for the first few days until Sig released their own info about the pistol.I will have to wait until I see and feel one to begin forming an opinion.I do hear that it is on the Caspian Frame and Slide, in such case, I wish they had done it with the wide body rather than the single stack. Check out our other stuff that we have on it at our 1911 group. groups.msn.com/THE1911BOYSCLUB

Ronnie; Picking up any pistol, especially a 1911 is a challenge and one I beg for if need be.The S&W 1911 was one which I offered up one of my Wilson CQBs to a guy, so I could request the S&W 1911 he had tucked away in his range bag. I picked it up and shot like crap the first two magazines, afterwards when I finally overcame the snagging action of the trigger I was able to tear large holes from smaller ones. Not very refined or smooth, but it can possibly have some potential for any willing to spend over $700. for one. S&W. like Sig, offers the external extractor, and a few other items but nothing significant. The best bet is to pick one up and compare it with a Colt or Springfield pistol. Not too fond of the black grip safety or slide stop on the satin stainless, S&W is noted for using MIM components in alot of their recent production guns.

Ronnie; What I want in a 1911 is what I can touch and feel at the counter, there are some good and some bad fitted pistols.Springfield offers alot in the loaded Models, and I would not hesitate to pick one up and compare it with one costing much more. That Re-Issued Series 70 Colt Government Model is one well fitted pistols, with the classic polished flats and finish that Colt has long been noted for.

THANKS Double, that Springfeild has had my intrest for about a year now but their is so many new 1911 types on the block it is crazy I just do not have the time anymore to try them all that is my problem I think I will take a trip to FAYETTENAM (FAYETTEVILLE,NC.) TO THE REST OF THE WORLD. TO JIMS GUN RANGE HE HAS ABOUT EVERY KIND OF GUN THEIR YOU CAN RENT AND SHOOT EVEN FULLY AUTO ,MP5'S,AR-15,CAR-15,AND ETC. I can easily spend the day their. Before i bought my H&K I went their and shot all the H&K'S and the GLOCK'S IN 40 SW. I GUESS I JUST WOULD LIKE TO ELIMINATE THE 1911'S THAT I PROBALY WILL NOT BE HAPPY WITH I DEMAND ALOT FROM MY GUNS AND I AM PICKY. OF COURSE I WANT THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK BUT I ALSO WILL LIKE THE GUN TO HOLD UP AND KEEP GOOD RESALE VALUE BECAUSE I BUY AND SELL ALOT IF I COME TO DISLIKE A GUN OR HAVE BAD TROUBLE WITH IT OR IT'S CUSTOMER SERVICE (LIKE I DID WITH ALL 4 OF MY GLOCKS) THAT IS WHY I HAVE HELD OUT ON BUYING MY NEXT 1911. SO I GUESS I AM ASKING FOR SO ADVICE ON 1911'S I LIKE SPRINGFIELD, I EVEN LIKE THE ROCKISLAND'S, THE SW1911 HAS GOT MY EYE AND THAT IS BECAUSE OF THE MAGAZINE ARTICLES HAVE PRAISED IT AND GUNS AMMO LOVED IT.I JUST HAVE NOT HEARD ENOUGHABOUT IT THE REASON I AM STILL NOT 100% SOLD ON IT IS BECAUSE OF THE HISTORY THEY HAVE ON THE REST OF THEIR AUTOS I HAD THE OLD 4506 FOR A WHILE IT WAS AWFULL I COUDL NOT GET IT TO SHOOT A FULL CLIP WITH OUT A FTF.THAT IS MY EXPERINCE WITH ALOT OF SW,5906,457,AND SO ON. THE SPRINGFIELD IS LOOKING GOOD SO FAR BUT I THINK I MIGHT STILL WAIT TILL I GET MY HANDS ON THE SIG GSR TO SEE IT, TECHNICALLY THE PARTS IN THE GSR DO YOU KNOW WHAT KIND OF QUAILTY THEY ARE USING IS IT TYPICAL SIG OR HAVE THEY SOLD US OUT ON THIS ONE? IF YOU KNOW PLEASE HELP ME I CONFUSED BUT I WILL BE GFETTING ONE BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHICH.
PLEASE IF ANY ONE HAS ANY INPUT I HAVE BEEN OUT OF THE REALM LATELY PLEASE ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED.THANKS GUYSGLAD TO BE BACK.

Ronnie, FWIW, I have a Kimber and am quite happy with it. It's my first 1911, but quite sure it won't be the last. I still dream of the Wilson CQB. I am 'pretty' sure that I'm going to use my Kimber as my CCW gun. Springfield makes a nice gun, I'm sure the SIG GSR will be nice as well ( I read all the extensive reviews and picture posts and such over on http://www.sigforum.com) It will probably boil down to personal preference and price. Good luck, welcome back to the boards! MiKeMaN

Ronnie; I'm not a speculator or anticipator of miraculous guns from any manufacturer, regardless of their track record. Just like a hyped up movie, some will have your attention all the way through line at the box office, until the point of falling asleep after one hour of the opening credits. When Colt annouced their changes under the guidance of the new CEO, William Keyes, I read his remarks about the future, their committment, and plans, I waited to pick up the proof for my own hands. For the money, there are many serious offerings in the 1911, everyone seems to want a piece of the pie ( So to Speak ),in my opinion most are following in the footsteps of a well beaten path, which we have seen coming for many years.I think Springfield, followed by Kimber, opened the door with their production grade modifications, offering factory installed Beavertails, Extended Thumb Safeties, Lightweight Trigger Shoes, and different price packages. It all still comes down to the Quality of steel, Machining, Fitting, Finish, Parts, and the Results. We are approaching a bygone era where many no longer purchases a new Colt Government, only to send it in to a noted pistolsmith for full custom modifications.Bill Wilson seen this coming about the same time that Kimber came on the scene,as did Ed Brown when he began offering his pistols on the Les Baer frames.

Yes much like a movie coming out, in the end, wait and just see for yourself.
When the SigPro was coming out I was all excited about it, thinking this may be for me and it being a Sig a natural winner. When I finally did grip one soon after, I discovered it was not for me, for me the weight and the grip was a bit awkward. Not to discount Sigs, I like their products very much, but it just goes to show till you see for yourself you really can't make a judgement then.
