I have heard that if a person wants a 1911, then this is not the gun to get. I haven't owned a firestorm though.
We can give a good recommendation for a real 1911 if you canstate your price range, expected round count and intended use. There are some really cheap but good 1911s out there now.

I just wanted to say that i to have never shot or had a firestorm, but i thought about getting one, the price is definetly good,,,,,,,,,, i was looking at them a while back. and a gentelman that i ended up talking to about them told me that he loved it, he said that he shot the shit out of his, and never had a problem, but that he dosn;t customize his firearms,,, he uses them for range time and self defence,,,,, but me personaly if i was going to customize a 1911 it wouldnt be a firestorm. i would get the colt, but as for reliability on the firestorm, i have only talked to 1 person about them and i wouldnt take only 1 persons views, thats why i havent gotten one yet, and i havent met anyone else that owns one

I can only relate to the many professional assessments on the Firestorms and the ratings they have recieved from people like Patrick Sweeney. These pistols are not recommended as platforms for building up, however, without investing alot of money I feel that they might provide a working knowledge of the 1911 with the possible exception of the external extractor. One cannot expect these variations and copies of the original 1911s to plant your feet on solid ground with a good base for customizing, nor would anyone I've encountered recommends investing any amount money into for modifications. In The Gun Digest Book on the 1911, Sweeney rates the Firestorm Government to shoot 3 1/2" groups at 50 yds. The Spanish Pistols have long been noted for having softer steel, and it is for this reason that many frowns upon their quality and strength as frequent shooters. The Firestorm is a LIama, which means that it has factory installed modifications, including a screw mounted plunger tube, screw secured firing pin stop, and grip screws that mount into the frame, rather than bushings, loose these screws and you can plan on looking to find replacements. Standard grips may or may not fit on these pistols; my little brother had a compact LIama and my Colt Officer's grips would not fit his pistol. I have went through this very same thing regarding the Firestorm and the Armscor more than a year ago, and it resulted in me getting banned at the 1911 forum, because I do all I can to give , at least, a single ounce of credibility to any affordable 1911.

I recently saw a RIA 1911, where the owner put in a beavertail, and plenty of other goodies.

Yea; They're probably good for tinkering on too, and excellent for learning on.

Though I've never owned a Firestorm, a close friend of mine bought one about 1 year ago. He got it NIB for just under $300. I didn't have high hopes for it, but every time we have gone to the range, it has performed flawlessly. Also, I had a Llama minimax II wich had superb accuracy and never once jammed. I sold it though, and put that money towards something that would give me a little more peace of mind.

Alot of reviewers give these pistols very low marks because they look at every 1911 as the standard platform for a competition grade pistol. If I think someone will be contented with one of these pistols a year after shooting it to death, and without investing $500. worth of modifications, I say each to his own, happy shooting, and best of wishes.

I just wanted to say that from what i understand, is that Llama and Firestorm are made from the same company, and Llama dosn't have the best reviews, thats why i havent bought a firestorm,,,, but i just wanted to say that i have a Llama that i got from a freind of mine, he was getting rid of some of his cheaper guns from his collection, and i bought his Llama and a star both firearms have absulutly bad reviews,,,, but to tell you the truth, i have shot the shit out of both pistols, and have had no problems, i had 2 stove pipes in the Llama when i first shot it,,,, but after polishing the feed ramp, and giving it a good cleaning, it shoots good, and i have to say, that they get shot, every weekend or other weekend, because my wife likes to shoot them, when im at the range. i dont no how long that they will last, but so far there is nothing wrong at all,,I no the older Llama's had a problem of the fireing pin breaking because of dry fireing, but that they suposedly changed that, and after i get home from the range, i disasemble them and inspect them and clean them thoroughly.

This is what the frame on a 1911 should look like, just prior to cleaning.http://groups.msn.com/GUNMENII/1911disassembly.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=393

I been thinking about doing a complete disassembly, how hard is it, and what special tools do I need for the job, if any?

Ok I think I'm even more confused now. I was told that all 1911 clones parts were interchangable. What would be a better first gun This firestorm or a EAA Witness 45 and why? Also on a side note can some one tell me what Personal pertection rounds are?
