i'm a college student in arizona and have never purchased a hand gun before. i was just looking around and i saw some good things about hi-point, and i saw the price. is this too good to be true. i just want a gun to shoot for fun, dont need to conceal it. I would appreciate it if someone had some kind of experience with this gun. i would also appreciate it if you would give me recomendations on what kind of gun i should get. thanks

well il tell you what,,,,,, highpoint firearms, your right about the price, definetly cheap,,,,, and they do shoot,,, first off if your wanting a firearm just to go shooting and you dont have much money, than a highpoint will do the trick,,, #1 they do shoot every time you pull the triger, they wont go jamming or anything, they shoot, but its not because there a great firearm, its because they are a very loose fit, i personaly dont own any of them, but i have freinds that own them, and i have shot them alot, there is a couple police officers i have talked to that bought them just to mess with them and see just how many rounds they could put through them before they broke, the last time i herd they was still going strong, But they was only for fun, not for self defence,,,, a high point isnt like those piece of sh** bryco or a lorcen ,, them dont shoot, but a highpoint does shoot everytime, there just ugly, clunky, cheap,,, but if you get one, you wont have any problems, but you wont want to use it for self defence, somthing that cheap, i wouldnt trust my life with,,,, but for shooting out in the back yard, it works perfect,,,, there just not the most accurate, Now as for a great cheap firearm, you should check into a Bulgarian Makarov they are absulutly great cheap firearms, and you can cary it for self defence, there very dependable, and there cheap, you can pick them up for around $150.00 and they last forever,,,, trust me i have one, and im not one of these guys that buy firearms and pack them away, i shoot them,,,,, allot,,,, i have my own rifle and handgun fireing range,,,,,here in town, and i can tell you the Bulgarian Makarov is a good buy, now #2 on these forums, most of the guys will tell you that if you dont spend $500 or more, than its junk,,,,, thats just bull,,,,, i personaly have $ 900.00 and up 1911's and i allso have $150.00 cheap firarms, some are for shooting and others are for concealed cary, self defence,,,, if you spend the money on the Makarov, it will be a lot more worth the money in the long run, because if you ever do want to use it for self defence, or for concealed carry you can,,,,,, were the highpoint your just going to be able to use it for shooting out side in your back yard........ now if you want a great firearm but you will pay for these,,,,, theres a Walther p99 ,, any and all of the glocks except the 40cal, i dont trust the 40cal in a glock just yet, there was to many problems with them,,,, springfield makes a few great firearms to,,, the 1911,,,, the XD,,,,

I own several handguns, including one Hi-Point, the 9mm Compact. I agree with the previous post, they are reliable, and OK as far as accuracy goes. If you plan on getting into shooting however you will soon want to upgrade. I keep my Hi-Point as a "trunk-gun" but do not rely on it for CCW or home protection (though it is fairly reliable). You will find few folks who actually own one complain about them, though many who don't own one will voice varying opinions. The advice I have for Hi-Point users is this - learn how to clean your Hi-Point and clean it after every trip to the range. Field stripping a Hi-Point requires removing a pin using a punch and a mallet (not as difficult as it sounds) and is not as easy or as intuitive as with other firearms, such as the well built Makarov (though be aware of the caliber - and availability and cost of ammo for the Mak). Finally, the warranty on Hi-Points are lifetime, no questions asked, repair or replacement. If the HiPoint is the best you can afford - go for it. If you can spend just a bit more however you will get more!!

Hi-Points cost too much; Now if I were looking for a handgun, I would look for a S&W, Colt, or Sig, at least you would be getting your money's worth.

Merakecow,
If the best you can afford is Hi-Point, then buy it. They are cheap, they're ugly and there is a good chance that the other guys at the range will ridicule you for it, but as least they don't blow up like the Davis 9mm I saw a guy come in w/ a few weeks ago.
Take some friendly advice. Go to your local gun/pawn shops. Check out their used handguns. You can likely find yourself a nice used revolver and most pawn shops will negotiate on the prices of used weapons.
Have you considered getting a good .22? A good Walther P22 can be had for $225-$250 new and the ammo is dirty cheap and you can use it for self defense in a pinch, because no matter what anyone tells you about needing a .45 for personal protection, see how many are willing to take a round of .22 in the butt?

Hi-Points cost too much; Now if I were looking for a handgun, I would look for a S&W, Colt, or Sig, at least you would be getting your money's worth. what the f are you talking about dude? hi-points are the cheapest around. you can't buy a new s/w for less than $250 (sigma 9 is the cheapest-trust me i have one). i think the hp guns are less than $200. everybody has nothing but good things to say about them. they never fail and they're cheap. you can't lose. as for the first guy who answered- your answer was totally illogical. "well, it fires every time and it's fairly accurate, but i'll never depend on it for anything like self-defenSe..." that, sir, makes no sense whatsoever. if it works, then why not carry it? "hooked on logic worked for me..." -deef ps i know i sound like a complete jerk, but mostly i just hate it when people make illogical arguments or assertions that are totally random and incorrect (like saying that hi-point is too expensive)...

Some of the best pistols and revolvers I have purchased were less than $500., And I am referring to Sig Sauers, Smith & Wesson Magnums, Colt 1911s, and Rugers. Why would I want to recommend that someone spend any amount of money on a crap shooter, when they can have something alot better for a little more. Patience will get you alot further in buying guns. If I am making an illogical assertion, tell me I'm lying. ;D

Whocares IS an abrupt a-s-s-h-o-l-e, who is also Doubleaction and Earl Tillman. He like to use his alter egos to f-u-c-k with people, and also to have conversations with himself. He is also certifiably insane.

You have a real problem, Rogerc/ Jerome; That problem is obvious to most anyone who reads your ramblings. ;D ;DAnother from the Archives: WARNING!Do not accept any firearms advice from anyone who is mentally ill. This Earl/DoubleAction/Whocares person is unstable, and could pose a danger to society.

Off your meds again, Earl/Whocares/Doubleaction?
Or did someone forget to flush, and you're still floating around?
Any advice you give only serves you, and your self serving agenda of garbage.
Go back to your hole, piss-ant.
Amyone who comes to this forum for advice on anything is barking up the wrong tree. The tree you've pissed all over.
