OK, maybe a stupid question. Forgive me, the gun is new and is in a new caliber for me.
H&K USP .45 ACP
Are the Winchester White Box rounds that they sell at WalMart the same thing? The box says "Auto .45" The rounds look the same, are 230 grain...which is right......I feel retarded for asking this.....Thanks in advance. P

Paradox,it is the correct ammunition. Some boxes of .45 acp will state .45 auto.No questions about firearms or ammunition is stupid,it was very smart of you to ask but always ask the sales clerk at the ammunition counter if the ammunition is .45 acp. before purchasing. Can I ask how much your paying for your .45 acp?

Thanks Dubbleakshun, you are a fantasitc contributor to this forum. I really appreciate your help.
I had asked the clerk at WalMart but said he "wasn't sure what I was talking about" LOL
They have 3 different varieties...CCI 230 Grain....which I am skeptical about putting through a .45. Aluminum casing...makes me nervous. The CCI's are $11 for 50, the Winchester White box is $13 and change so essentially $14 for 50. I am not sure what the other type was. I believe it was Winchester also, but in a black or blue box. The range we go to charges $14 for 50, 185 grain reloads. BTW I live in Southern California. Thanks again.

Gudel, what site is it that you got your .45 ammo from and what was the price? I am very interested.
Went and put some rounds through the gun today and here's my quick and dirty report.
Justice Ammo Re-Loads (Bought at Range, local outfit) 45 Automatic 230 Gr. Re-Loads ($12 + tax for 50 rounds)
Local re-loads that we have shot before. Decent rounds that shoot fine for practice, but I am curious as to the powder being used. The rounds seem underpowered and "dirty". Meaning the gun is much dirtier after shooting these rounds than original load ammo. The underpowered bit is verified by the action of teh H&K 45 we are shooting. The action only shows wear to about 2/3 of it's potential.
CCI Blazer 45 Automatic 230 Gr. FMJ ($9.97 + tax for 50 rounds at WalMart)
I was nervous about these rounds because of the aluminum casing and the discount price. However, at first shot I was very impressed. Definitely a full load. We put 100 rounds through the gun and had no malfunctions, no problems and, basically, we were both (my rommate and I) delightfully surprised by these rounds. The powder was much cleaner than the reloads, the power was great, they shot accurately (First 5 rounds of this ammo all bullseyes from about 10 yards) Will DEFINITELY buy more of this stuff for range shooting.
Winchester White Box 45 Automatic 230 Gr. BEB ($13.95 + tax for 50 rounds at WalMart)
"New Brass Enclosed Base" Impressive looking and shooting cartridge. At the first shot I saw teh wisp of smoke come up, smelled the Winchester powder and was immediately taken back to growing up and grouse hunting with my Dad's old .410 and Winchester shells....always Winchester. What a great smell. But I digress.......Another great round. More expensive than the CCI's and you can tell. They just feel cleaner. Not sure if that is a very good explanation or not, but it is how I felt shooting them. About 200 rounds thorugh the gun, no misfires or jams. The Winchester did smoke more than the other rounds. Not to a point of being a probelm or making the gun dirty, just more barrel smoke. No noticeable change in accuracy between these rounds and the CCI rounds. They DID make much cleaner holes through the paper targets we were using. For range shooting I will save the $7 though and will shoot the CCI's with the occasional box of Winchester thrown in.
Winchester 45 Auto 185 Gr. Silvertip HP ($12.95 + tax for 20 rounds at WalMart)
KICK ASS. Full power, a great POP to them, great accuracy and cool sparks off of the back of the range. This is what I will use for home defense loads. I only shot 4 at the range today...I can't afford to blow these bad boys at the range.
That's my take on the stuff we shot today. As you can tell, I am FAR from a pro (aka dubbleakshun) at this stuff so if I didn't do a good job or missed some essential aspect of reviewing these rounds, let me know and I will fill in the holes. Hope this is helpful.

Paradox;Your paying far too much for your .45 acp,I looked at cheaper than dirt and they are getting $9.95 on the PMC 230 gr.FMJ but Ga. Arms Canned heat is less than $10. for a box of 50.I have been using the Ga. Arms ammunition for over 14 years without any problems,I have eight .45 acp semi-auto pistols ,( 6-Colt 1911s & 2-Sig 220s) I swear by the Shear Power plus 185 gr.+P Gold Dot that sells for $13.75 for 50.I often use other brands including Winchester,Federal,PMC,and just recently bought 1,000 rds. of I.M.I. for $160.I never pay over $10. for a box of 50 in .45 acp FMJ 230 gr.

I also found another site where i got the CCI Blazer 230 50rd FMJ for around $8 and they do not charge ammo handling charge like cheaperthandirt. they are called Outdoor Super Store. I'm testing different ammo, to see which one is suitable with this gun.

Research pays off. If only we could get a review database going of each of these brands! Here are some other sites that I found which looked interesting. The second link has no shipping nad handling on orders over $30! www.ammo.net/ammoretail.htmlwww.ammobank.com/

Good work on the links ;this turned out to be a good reference source for anyone looking for,not only .45acp but,all handgun ammunition;great job.By the way,the empty brass for .45 acp has a turn in value of $.035 to $.04 each. That means for each 1,000 rds, you can get back $35. to $40. dollars credit on your next ammo purchase;save your brass!

better yet, get a .22 lr, which cost mere fractions of a cent. If you couple that with a quality handgun from Davis or Lorcin, total investment for a handgun and a couple thousand rounds is under $100. Follow my tip about filing down the bullets, then they make wicked self defense loads. . . . . . . (APRIL FOOLS JOKE, people)
