Could somebody please explain nightsights on a handgun. How do they work? Are they worth the additional cost for home protection?

Night Sights are glowing dots in place of the standard white painted dots that usually come on the gun. They do not have to be exposed to light in order to glow because it is tritium, a regulated phosfate [sic]. The trijicons will glow for 12 years. They can be green or orange and I think even yellow. The advantage is instant sight acquisition in pitch black rooms or outside. They are worth the money.

Most Night Sights, such as those manufactured by Trijicon, feature very small transparent tubes that are filled with a glow in the dark radioactive substance called "Tritium".The tubes are inserted into the sight, sealed, and appear as dots when viewed in darkness.I think they are worth the extra money; I prefer the Trijicons.

I agree with the two previous posts. Would like to add that on any handgun that I keep for defensive purposes, I definitely want to have some type of night sights on them. Have had good experiences with Trijicon. Worth the money.

I use Ameriglow sights. I found them on Ebay for $40.00 and although I've never shot at night, they seem to be bright enough. I think the normal price is in the $60-$70 range. You probably will need a gunsmith to put them on because I suspect your pistol will need to be put in a vise or press.
