Quick question. As I am getting into handguns/shotguns etc. I was wondering what should be in a properly equipped range bag? Obviously heaing protection, eye protection (clear and tinted for outdoors?) but what other things should be taken to a gun range?

Ok - here is whats in mine ( some things do not fit in Bag):
Hearing Protection Shooting Glasses Basic Cleaning Equipment ( Bore Brush, Bore Cleaner, Bristle Brush and Oil ) Basic Screwdriver set Spotting Scope Tripod 2 or 3 bags for picked up Brass Paper Targets and Patches, Masking Tape.
Sometimes I also bring a Hand gun rest with me - but only when testing new loads.
I think that's it.

Plenty of Ammunition , Targets , Swingline T-50 Staple Fastener( for Targets ), Aluminum Wire ( For Supporting Target Board ) , Screw Drivers, Magazines in Pouch,Hang Muffs on outside with clip,a few packs of gunsheath wipes, lense cleaner,a couple of pistol cleaning rods & patches, optical devices, and a small flashlight.Anything else like Protective eyewear, ear plugs,or whatever else,I carry in a utility vest which also serves as a coverup.

I know it's kind of passe to wear a utility vest, but mine really helps out with my prescription shooting glasses, and things that I want easily accessable. The vest also covers my pistols, because there might be an occassion where I'll have three guns at one time, and I'm not comfortable leaving them in the bag while I'm shooting. If for some reason, something happens to cause for me to vacate my vehicle, the vest provides me with plenty of cover.I make a habit of wearing the vest on a daily basis, because of the pockets, and I've never been stopped and questioned about being armed.I am fond of the Banana Republic expedition vest, there are excellent reproductions of this same vest available from other manufacturers,at half the price,US Calvary has one that looks alot like the Banana Republic for $50.Twenty years ago the vests were called California Concealment Vests. You can always strap a camera around your neck with the vest, and use a photographer's gadget bag as a range bag and walk down any public street.Ever watch the photo journalists at an event? Large Bags and bulky vests.

I have one of those "photographers vests" with 100 pockets. They are an excellent piece of clothing for fishing, hunting and on the shooring range.

I have a vest from Cabelos, one from US Calvary,A lightweight Photojournalist Vest, one from Fox Fire that is 100% Cotton. For comfort I like the Fox Fire and the Banana Republic because of the lightweight cotton and loose fit.Banana Republic once had a good selection of expedition garments, but I've been told that they have changed their clothing line over the years;I've been wearing my vest for over ten years, the kinda thing that grows on a person like an old pair of Rockports.

I know my old, tired feet love those Rockports! Never had a utility vest but the weather for it is near. I may check out Bass Pro Shops for one, as well as Cabelos, and, what the hey, Banana Republic, too!
A friend of mine is a photojournalist and wears the vest. He is also a longtime handgun enthusiast, so you know he's loaded down!

Callahan; Those from US Calvary for $50. looks just like the Banana Republic, but watch out for the $30. dollar one,it's cheap and made from some sort of fabric.I've seen the News Teams in the middle east wearing mostly the Banana Republic vests.Try this link; www.uscav.com
