This topic may have been covered before but the search came up with nothing so. What are you guys using in 40 cal for personal defense?

DoubleAction recommends the Georgia Arms Shear Power Plus. That was good enough for me. I bought some also. My primary carry is a PM9 but I can carry my G22 without showing with a tropical shirt or a jacket. www.georgia-arms.com/power.htm

When I carry my P239 I always have Cor Bons in it. They have about the hottest load you can buy, and extreme velocity.
I wouldn't carry them in a Glock, though

Grains refers to the weight of the bullet. FPS is feet per second that the bullet travels. Which of these is more important and how the interact is a complex subject. Lots of opinion and no definitive answers. This site is a decent place to start. www.chuckhawks.com/index2bb.handgun_cartridges.htm

I can afford to shoot the georgia arms ammo more than the Corbon,Winchester SXT,Hydra Shok,Golden Saber,Triton,or any of the others.I get the georgia arms .45 acp 185 gr. + P Gold Dots at $13.75 per 50 rds. Most of the others costs that much for just 20 rds.How much of the other stuff can someone afford to practice with? Check out the "Sheer Power Plus". www.georgia-arms.com

In the .40 S&W, I practice with almost everything made, but I mostly carry the 135 Corbons in my smaller Sig 239.On occassions I'll switch barrels for the .357 sig,and the 125 gr. Triton HI-VEL.The georgia arms loaded Gold Dot bullet will put you with what you should require in bullet expansion and penetration upon target impact. The georgia arms ammunition is some of the smoothest, accurate, pistol ammunition I have enjoyed putting through my handguns during the past 14 years.

I'll admit I don't practice with Cor Bons very much, it just gets too pricey.
If someone can find compared FPS and muzzle energy for some hollow points, drop the link. I'd love to see some actual data to back up all the hearsay

The links are back on my post from 8:29 p.m last night. Both are from the manufacturer but those are usually pretty accurate I believe. I know Cor Bon is reputed to be very good but the Georgia Arms numbers are almost identical.

Yeah, the .45 ACP specs are about the same- the Corbon gets like 50 fps more in 185 grain, and the .40 gets 100 fps more.
So, it is more from the Cor Bons, but probably won't make a big difference.
Check out that .400 Cor Bon, though- I'm feeling that. It looks like the .45 equivilent of a .357 Sig. Anyone know who makes barrels for this caliber? I may have to try it.

True. That is a small but significant difference. I was comparing the .40 which are more even.

Jeffly;if your looking for more velosity and energy in a reasonable priced cartridge and lighter bullet, you might think of a conversion barrel to the .357 sig.The georgia arms .357 sig is a 125 gr. Gold Dot Bullet with 544 ft. lbs. of energy, with a velocity of 1400 fps.I have heard of some who measured this cartridge at around 1470 fps.The 135 gr. Corbon won't catch this one.Oh Yeah;the price for this Gold Dot .357 sig,$16. for 50 rds.

There are cheaper .400 Corbon conversions, but Barsto is your best bet.
