I don't think the 10mm gets enough credit. Especially when compared to the .45 ACP. It certainly beats it out when it comes to the hottest loads . And the 10mm "lite load" (180gr @ 1030fps) can tame the recoil for those who don't want to deal with the heavy recoil. That's why I like this round. It's more versatile than anything else out there. For the money, I'll take a Glock 20 over a .45ACP anything, anyday.
Your thoughts...

I'd be worried about the cost of ammo as time goes by since it is not one of the more 'popular' rounds. Do you find this to be the case now?

I figure there's a reason that nobody carries 10mm, and the FBI switched to .40 rather quickly.
It definately beats .45 for muzzle energy in a full load, but shooting a full load 10mm HURTS. Shooting +P .45 feels nice, and if you can't shoot it you can't hit the guy you want dead

Ya, the cost of ammo can be up there, I don't mind buying ammo the same as buying a new water pump for my truck.
Recoil is severe, but I've learned to cope with it. It really is what you get used to. I carried the 10mm when I lived in Arizona. We would go hiking on my buddies ranch in Southern AZ. We had to worry about bears, Mtn Lions, and a few lesser critters. I would not trust a .40 for defense against a bear. Maybe it would work, I don't really know, but the 10mm auto gives you peace of mind that you can't get with the others, especially in the field. When we would be in town, I still carried it, with lite loads. It was a necessity b/c the town was 90% mexican, and I was not, and crime was HIGH!
Now I live in a much more urban/suburban envirnonment anymore, but when I lived down there, 10mm worked out very well for me in a more rural setting. I guess kinda like the cowboy who wears a peacemaker while hearding cattle, but only has his Derringer in his pocket at the card table.

I think the availability of 10mm is a big issue. I can't remember the last time I saw 10mm. ammo. This sorry state of affairs turned me off to them even though I was lustin' after a Delta Elite I saw at a gun show last summer.

Well, I do think that 10mm is one of the best rounds available, but yes availability is an issue. I can usually find a box or two at my local stores, but no stockpiles like .40 or 9mm. Mikolev, I too would take a 10mm ANY DAY over a .45
