Mainly this question is for the self defense rounds. I'm pretty much limited to this forum since I have a firewall at work, so I can't get on Makarov forums. Anybody here have any advise on good self defence loads?

As I understand it, the .380 ACP and the 9x18 Makarov are nearly identical ballistically, but not interchangeable. Corbon brand JHP is about the best you can do in a .380. I don't believe Corbon makes that cartridge for Makarov, though you could check their web site. Federal used to and a couple of others. I'd start at a Wal-Mart but you may end up having to go to a gun show to find your best selection. You will be well served by most any jacketed hollow point you find.I doubt you'll find more than one loading of that in a JHP, but maybe you will. www.chuckhawks.com/9mm_Makarov.htmwww.chuckhawks.com/compared_9x18_380.htm

As you will see at this site, Wolf makes the 9x18 and their ammo is usually inexpensive. I see Hornady does, too. Don't know much about the others... www.makarovinfo.com/ammo.htm

For my Makarov, I bought a 1000 case of Barnaul JHP pretty cheap. Go to Makarov.com and follow the links. The denizens there are as knowledgable on the Mak as anybody. I'm actually impressed by the Barnaul rounds - the hollow point in them is much bigger than the tiny pinhole on the Fiocchi rounds I used to buy.
