I looking for my first revolver, and have narrowed down my selection to the Smith & Wesson 686 Plus - 4", and the 686 - 5" (limited availability). Both are 7-shot.
The S&W Model 686 Plus is SKU # 164194. The limited edition Model 686, 7-shot 357, 5" barrel is SKU # 164284. The differences in this model are that it has a hi-viz front sight, drilled & tapped frame for scope, and Ahrens wood grip. They're both the same price. I handled the 686 4" in the store and it fit my hand really well. However, they didn't have the 5" in stock to try out. Should I be worried about the 7-shot revolvers being too much of an odd ball gun to get accessories for, versus a 6-shot? Realistically speaking, the gun will be used more for target shooting than home defense. The 5" will be more accurate than the 4" barrel. This will probably not be my only gun, so I can always get something smaller down the road. Also, Smith's web site shows that the 686 Plus is a medium frame gun, but that the 686 5" is a large frame. Does anyone have any opinions on the 5", or whether or not it's a good idea to go with the 5" over the 4"?
Thanks, Dean

Dean; HKS offers speedloaders for the seven shooters; That is no problem. I have had the full lug 4" and 6" long enough to find the half lug barrels more appealing. I have the 29 classic in the five inch and find it to be well balanced. I like your choice.
