Im approaching my 20th year, with the NYPD and can't decide on a good carry gun, since I'll still be working with-in the confines of NYC. I still have my trusty 38 SW Md 36 , 5 shot. Im currently carrying a Glock 19. Nice gun, great workhorse, but Im not too happy with the plastic grips on polymer type handguns. I've done some research and have narrowed my choices between 2 guns with-in my budget. The Kahr K40 2003 elite and the SW CS45. Im leaning for the Kahr. I do like the idea of a 45 ACP, in a small semi-auto handgun, like the SW CS45. Does anyone out their have experiences/opinions on both of the handguns, I've described.

Ken,
It must be nice to be one of the few who can carry in NYC. It's like its own little state down there. ;D
I've heard good things about the Kahr line. I like the idea of the steel version as opposed to the polymer as well. From everything I've heard, it's a quality handgun. The only downside I understand is the company ownership (Moon).
I'll have to look up the S&W CS45. Is that the designation for the new compact version of their SW99? That is available in 45 cal as well. A similar offering is available from Walther, but not in 45 cal. Too bad. I like my P99.
This forum is a bit slow. More good info can be had at the link below. Best of luck...

Thanks for the response, MLB. Im not to familiar with SW semi-autos, so Im not sure about the SW99. I've always been interested in owning a 45, but their kind of too bulky to carry. I've personally seen the kind of damage, the 40 and 45 cal can produce, at crime scenes. Lately, 40 cal shell casings seem to be showing up most crimes scenes. I looked at the SW CS45, because it seemed to be compact. I know from experience, it's very important, when clearing the holster, to establish the proper grip first, before one worries about sight picture and trigger squeeze. I fired a co-workers Kahr K9, and what a nice gun!. The soft grips are sweet and provides a nice crisp draw from the holster. Only problem with the 9mm, the bullet's too light. When I leave the job, Im carrying what know is best, and will get the job done, god forbid. I'll check out the other link-Thanks.

I have owned the polymer kahr in 40 and it was one of the worst guns i have ever owned! it was quite innacurate and a pain in the a** to take apart and put back together you may want to check out the Sig Sauer P239 model it is quite small and light weight with a metal frame, decocker and it holds 8 rds of 40 or 9 i hope this helps have a great retirement.
