I live in New Jersey and have put through all of the paperwork to purchase my 1st handgun. The handgun that I am leaning towards is the Glock 22, 40 cal. I am hoping to get hired as a police officer somewhere, so I want to be a little more familar with firearms. Since it is my first handgun, I am also thinking about taking a firearms safety course as well. If any of you have any suggestions or comments I would welcome the feedback.
Thanks,
Kevin

Ktully,
Glock seems to be a reasonable choice if you're interested in law enforcement. Most carry Glocks, many in .40cal. The handgun safety course is an extremely good idea.
Jerome is right about this forum though. The two links he suggests will give you much more info. Good Luck.

ktully,
If you are conidering a polymer type handgun such as Glock, I would highly recommend that you check out the Springfield Armory XD series. I have a 4" Service model in .40 S&W nd really like it. It is similiar, but has an additional grip safety (like 1911), a fully supported chamber and lifetime warranty. They run about $100 less than Glock. They come in 9mm, .40, .357 Sig and soon they will have the .45 GAP. You should be able to find one for around $400.00 new.
As the others have said, go to the forums that they have linked above. This forum is dead.

this should be a good starting gun for you also you may want to check out the SIg Sauer and Berretta lines of firearms they are also very popular in the law enforcement industry you may feel more comfortable with one of these weapons considering they are more traditional. but they are all great weapons and good luck in your career in law enforcement. and definately take a handgun safety course.
