Just thought I'd ask for opinions on the .454 Ruger Alaskan 2.5 inch. I was reading another site where a guy called in and asked for a four inch. They said "NO". I personally consider the 2.5 inch ridiculous because of the muzzle blast, muzzle flash, and recoil. I would like a four inch model, though. It would take a lot of urging at Ruger to get it, though, because the bbl. length is due to the shroud. A longer length means a longer shroud, which means additional metal and labor, etc. I realize many of you do not like the .454 due to your limitations on recoil, etc. That's fully understandable. Maybe, if there isn't much interest here, someone could link me to a .454 site or Yahoo Group. Thanks for any info, or whatever, you can provide.

Hi DZ,
I'd imagine that additional material and/or labor wouldn't be an issue with Ruger especially. Their firearms are generally built like tanks to begin with.
The driving force is market demand I'd say. There may not be enough interest for a 4" barrel. Although I'd agree with you that I'd rather have a 4 than a 2.5. Perhaps someone over at Handguns or Gungroup can help. Take a look. The links are in many of the threads here.

It looks like there is no .454 group so we started one. It is a one-issue, two-gun (rifle and handgun) site, so drop in if you are interested in the .454 groups.yahoo.com/group/454casull/Just thought I'd ask for opinions on the .454 Ruger Alaskan 2.5 inch.
