I'm looking for 9mm Semi auto pistol, something around $250, I know it is not enough money to buy a very good pistol. Someone recommended me to concern Star BM 9mm or Walther P38. I intend to P 38. but I read some comments about P38 from a book. It said P 38 has a hard rough trigger pull, poor balance and unreliable hammer-drop safety. I want to make sure it is true or not , because I think the hard rought trigger is not good for me. Also I want to know what " poor balance " is. Any suggestion? Thanks!

The Walther P38 is an older pistol. I have heard less than glowing reviews of the trigger pull. I think the best info you can get on this handgun would be at the Walther forum. www.waltherforum.comThe Walther P1 is a variant, and there is an excellent review of it by XavierBreath at the Handguns forum (see address below)

In that price range I recommend you look at a used Ruger 95 or CZ 75. You can find them new for about $325-350 so you should easily be able to get a used one for about $250. Hi-Point makes a 9mm semiatuomatic that you might be able to get for $250 new but of the three I'd take the Ruger.
Star is a Spanish maker that is either out of business or in trouble, so don't count on much support with any problems. Ruger is alive and well, on the other hand and their products are as reliable and trustworthy as any, just not the smallest or most concealable. I wouldn't buy a Walther P38 except for collecting purposes, much like their famous but NOT excellent PPK.
