Hello,
I bought my first handgun, and I was looking for advice on ammo. I do not want to spend a arm and a leg to shoot, so I am lookign at buying bulk ammo. I heard alot of remanufactered range rounds are not good, so I was curious a) what is recommended manufacturer wise (or more importanly, what shoudl I stay away from) b) where is a good place on the net to buy ammo?
Thanks in advance

Hello cura, If you are looking for new brand-named home defense ammunition, try www.ammoman.com for .40S&W, also Georgia-arms is very good as well. For everyday practice, Wal*Mart has a good supply of ammo.

cura; what you heard about remanufactured ammo is a crock. I've tested georgia arms reloaded ammunition against brand new ammunition, and what I obtained in the georgia arms .45 acp was better groups, p.o.a. accuracy, smoother recoil ( less muzzle flip ), faster follow up shots, zero malfunctions, and a cleaner pistol to clean up afterwards. I've been shooting the georgia arms ammunition for 15 years, and I put their cartridges through both my Wilson CQBs, my Colt 1911s, Pythons, all nine of my Sigs, including two sport pistols, and all of my S&W magnum revolvers. I swear by their stuff.

Try Wal-Mart. The 9mm 100 round box from Winchester (Winchester White Box) is less than $11.00. I think the .40 cal is around $14.00 per hundred. .45ACP was around $18.00 the last time I checked.
I doubt that you will find anything less expensive in a brass cased cartridge unless you have the cash to purchase in bulk.
The online prices usually look pretty good until you figure in the shipping. Shipping to Houston is roughly $17.00 per 1000 round case unless your order tops 250 pounds. At that point it drops drastically. Enough that the last time I purchased in bulk, my last case was essentially free. For 9mm, that means 7 cases. With .40 cal, you may only have to purchase 6 cases. So, unless you have the cash to outlay for that much ammo, Wal-Mart usually is the best price you will find anywhere for practice ammo and you don't have to purchase thousands of rounds at a time.
