dubbleakshun: Yes. We need to move toward a nation-wide permit system. It makes good sense. Where do we start?

Trapper;A few years ago I heard of an issue brought up about the interstate trucking industry but I haven't heard anything of it lately.Several states honor my permit but that only covers the regional area.If a federal carry permit could be made an option through the BATF it would still protect our individual state rights.I would support a federal firearms carry permit but only if we could maintain our carry rights under state law.A group such as the N.R.A. would be a good place to start, along with correspondance and petitions from groups like the Teamsters who represent a large portion of the Trucking Industry.A need has to exist on a large scale for something like a Federal Firearms Carry Permit, the Trucking Industry would provide that outlet of need to open the door for legislation.

A national permit would be wonderful, spectacular , and all those other words. I'm in SC. According to www.packing.org , the states that honor my CWP are AK, AR, ID, IN, KY, MI, MT, TN, UT, VA, and WY. Notice that there aren't any adjoining states? The closest is TN, and I have to go through GA or NC to get there. Something tells me that "Making my life easier" is not one of the basic functions of government.

A thought just popped into my noggin (yes, it does happen once in a while. It just takes a couple seconds to get over the shock!).
What if the MILLIONS of American gunowners actively and aggressively lobbied Congress for a national permit? I'm talking about getting EVERYBODY involved.
Maybe I'm a dreamer, but heck, we know what we'd have if we don't try. And, in addition to all the obvious benefits, just imagine the look on Sarah Brady's face!!!!!!!!!!!

As I've pondered this concept my first concern was with a possible violation of the 10th Amendment. However, consider that the federal government controls many activities in the individual states. For example, the states do not grant and regulate pilot licenses. The states do not grant and regulate licenses for radio and TV stations.
Also, the Bill of Rights in the FEDERAL Constitution states, "...the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
Any of you folks think an organized effort might be able to make something actually happen?

I checked. Eight states have reciprocal agreements with my state of the 31 states that issue CCLs. See packing.org.

There is a great website called Packing.org that has information on CCW permits in almost every state. I noticed that Indiana (where I live) honors permits from nearly 42 states, where only about 7 states honor Indiana permits. How unfortunate that these types of restrictions are are placed on our 2nd amendment right.
