Does anybody have an opinion on "MEG-GAR" or "MEC-GAR" magazines? Made in Italy; the company itself appears to be in Connecticut.

Yes;I've purchased Meggars in the past before I obtained better.I have some for the Sig 220 .45 acp;the stainless is okay but the blue came loose from the mag catch while I was shooting. The blue fit alright in another of my 220s but I would not bet my life on using them.I purchased some for a Colt Officer's .45 acp that has worked fine for over 9 years, but I have some that I used in my Colt Commander that was junk.I found a dealer in a crowd and asked about his Meggars,he swore by them,so I pulled out mine and offered up a trade for something else.Rule of thumb;keep all your packages on all purchases, you might have to trade or sell as new later.I have heard rumors who say that Meggar makes the Sig Magazines,I have seen no resemblence in appearance or fit.

Thanks, dubbleakshun. You have certainly been around. Found Mec-Gar's website : www.mec-gar.it/ Yes, they do claim to supply original (O.E.M) SIG magazines, and magazines for other leading firearms manufacturers. Am using Mec-Gar mags for my 1911. So far, performance is OK. Damn tough to squeeze in the last rounds in Mec-Gar's hi-cap mag., but I guess that's normal for all hi-cap mags. Cheers!

antediluvianist;I will be more than happy to photography the factory Sig Mags and the Meggar mags side by side and let anyone see the difference.I have over twenty of the meggars for the 220,and as I saide before, the stainless works fine but I paid $20. dollars each for them almost ten years ago.The base plate removes similar to the sig but is a two piece unit rather than a one piece plate. The meggar plate is held captured by another plate beneath the mag spring, the sig plate is captured by the end of the mag spring on the side.No resemblence in the mags at all,I don't understand how any such rumor could get started unless someone at meggar wanted to boast sales,or unless it pertained to some of the 9mm mags of the 228 or 226,of which I never bought into the 9mm caliber to know.

Oh yea;I traded my full length 1911 Meggar mags for some ten round McCormick mags in .45 acp (Shooting Stars) and they work just fine;so fine that Colt includes the McCormick 8 round followers in alot of their factory magazines.
