CAN YOU CHECK A SERIAL # ?? lets say you buy a gun at a flea market or gun show, here in Florida a Florida resident can sell another Florida resident a gun, Is there any national data base to check the serial # to see if a gun is stolen? ?

Mike,
When I took my handgun safety course (required here in NYS), the instructor mentioned that she always calls the sheriff's department with the serial # when she is considering the purchace of a used pistol.
I'd imagine that all LEO's have access to this info. I can't imagine that they wouldn't help out.

Sailboat; With the way Computers are in the police departments,I think most can access the same data base for checking serial numbers of reported stolen firearms. That is what I've been told by my local authorities over the years, when I questioned their search limitations.Look at how fast they are with checking stolen automobiles.
