I recently recieved an email from chief charles walters of the Gwinnett county police department stating that persons 18 and up can openly carry a handgun anywhere a licensed person can carry - be it in ones car business etc... I know how confusing the laws can be, so i finally asked the chief of police to clarify. Just thought id post it up here in case anyone else was wondering what the laws were in gwinnett county.

When the chief finally sobers up,he will realize that in reality he is not of the Georgia State Assembly, nor is he of the State House of Representatives, and as I remember right,Sonny Purdue was elected govenor of the State of Georgia and not some redneck chief of police from Gwinnett county. Most cops are liars anyway, especially the ones we have in Georgia, who know the less about any of our laws regarding firearms because they ignore anything that does not pertain to them.Even though the permits to carry firearms are issued through the county, the issuing authority is the State,as is our firearm carry laws.He has no say in the matter, one way or the other.Block this crap shooter from your email.

groutmusic;I recieved all correspondance regarding the carry laws in Georgia directly through the State Probate Office,in writing, and signed by an authority of the State. This includes any updates or revisions in any new or previous laws, within the State. If you wish,I can post some copies on my GunmenII site.We are also update on any federal laws which might affect any existing State Laws.

You might just want to conceal that firearm if so licensed or carry legally otherwise
A traffic cop on a routine stop is going to wig at the sign of a holstered gun. I don't care what the law is, you will spend significant time trying to get your gun back, or lose it.

By linking directly with your State, you can be assured that the information is update, and correct. Some laws change, and I prefer to go to the source rather than be sorry. When I present proof of my carry laws to an officer, I want it to be from the state that I reside rather than someone's website domain.

I can say with out a doubt, that the Gwinett County Police Chief is wrong about open carry in Georgia. Not only does Georgia law forbid carrying openly, but if I remember correctly, Georgia has a legal stipulation forbidding counties, Gwinett being a county, from regulating laws concerning the carry of firearms, which is expressly reserved for the state legislature in Georgia.

Thanks for the support mikolev;Anyone under the age of 21 is not eligible for a gun carry permit in georgia, and to be convicted of carrying a firearm illegally will definitely injure one's future in obtaining a permit later on.I do not allow for any law enforcement official to quote these codes of law to me;these are my rights, which I'm already fully familiar, and will defend with a firm posture.Right or Wrong, good or bad,I have past all the required tests by abidding by the laws, and never putting myself above a one.
