WASHINGTON (Dec. 6) - Hoping to spend as much as it wants on next year's elections, the National Rifle Association is looking to buy a television or radio station and declare that it should be treated as a news organization, exempt from spending limits in the campaign finance law.
Now that is a fascinating idea! I can see a lot of liberal, anti-gun folks getting real upset about that...

Yeah, I read that in the paper this morning. You're right. I bet the Clinton types will be getting their panties all bunched up over that one. Good one NRA.

Interesting stuff, but the "NRA Channel" will never be considered a real news organization. A news organization has to be impartial.
I can't see it being very useful. Tho only people that would watch it would be people that don't need convincing. Preaching to the choir as it were...

Maybe that "preaching to the choir" bit has merit but it is a great way to use the loopholes that those SOB's wrote in that stupid unconstituitonal law in the first place.
I'd rather just see someone (with deep enough pockets) challenge the law in court so it will just go away. Buying the station might get around the law for now but it also legitimizes it, making it harder to get rid of later.

That would be one channel where I would enjoy sitting through the advertising.
Imagine some of the programming..."The Armed Citizen" brought to you by Kimber USA and the Cor-Bon Ammunition Corp...
"True Western Adventures" brought to you by Colt ...

Hmmm. NRA-TV. How would that play... "Survivor" would take on a whole new meaning. Due to the new tools, shop safety at "Tool Time" would have to improve unless it were to segway into "ER". The "Antiques Roadshow" would look alot like your average Gun Show. "Law & Order" would be decidedly shorter. I don't think "Oprah" would make the cut. "Saturday Night Live" would probably be renamed "Saturday Night Special" and last but not least, Elmer Fudd would once again rule Saturday morning cartoons. ("It's Teletubby Season!")

The major networks are less likely to air such pro gun programming, and that is the mainstream of public access viewing. At one time we enjoyed a program called "The American Sportsman",which featured noted television celebrity fiquires venturing on guided moose, ram, deer, elk, and other large game hunts.Somewhere in my photo album, I have a picture of a television screen that I took with the American Sportsman's opening title.
