I was just told that our Governer (Blagoyovich) wants to ban guns completely from Illinois. I was told that he wants to stop the state from issuing F.O.I.D. cards to people. I'm extremely worried because I recently (about 2-3 weeks ago) registered for my F.O.I.D. license. I'm waiting on my card to purchase my first handgun. I was told by a friend that if he were to ban FOIDs from being issued that I would not get mine even though I had already registered. I'm 21 and never really took politics seriously but now for the first time I realize how important politics are. I just hope its not too late for me. I live in a suburb in Chicago that actually allows citizens to keep handguns in their homes. I just want to have more information on this issue in Illinois. Any Illinois residents here? If so, do you think I'm safe? I don't know what I'd do if I were unable to legally purchase a handgun. Sorry guys, I'm just venting. I'm really worried about this issue now. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Jonathan,
Wouldn't that be a total and complete violation of the 2nd Amendment subject to some sort of Federal oversight? After all the right to keep and bear arms is gaurenteed in the U.S. Constitution. In the past, legislators have weaseled in restriction by restriction incrimentally as to appear that they still respect the constitution to an extent...the Brady Bill comes to mind. I just can't see a total ban of guns from a state. D.C. is a different story b/c it's not a state, and there is a lawsuite challenging that right now. Besides, even if the governor wants to ban guns, that dosn't mean he can. The legislators are who you really have to worry about. True the governor will sign the bill, but first the bill has to make it to his desk. I'm don't think he can ban guns by executive order, but that would probably be dependant on the Illinois state constitution. Also, I can only imagine the amount of lawsuits that would come flooding in from so many gun-rights organizations and private citizens alike. This would most certainly leave the fate of guns in Illinois to an appeals court, if the unthinkable were to happen. If I were you, I would be more concerned about the more surreptitious efforts to abridge your 2nd Amendment rights, such as attempts to place exorbitant taxes on ammo etc...

P.S. What's a F.O.I.D. liscence?...Here in good ol' GA, you don't need any type of liscence to buy a gun, just a record clean of felony's.

Jonathon; Mikolev is right, here in Ga. the only thing we have a problem with is affording all the guns.No waiting period, no restrictions on handguns, permits are only necessary if you plan on carrying one on your person, and you can buy all you want ( Within Reason )

Well, Jon I live about 30 minutes away from you in Indiana, and I can't believe the laws you have there. Did you know you live in one of the most unconstitutional states and cities in the U.S. I would suggest moving a half-hour away and carrying your gun wherever you want in your state! I know this is a longshot. Anyway, Good ole' Rod Blegoyavich is really trying to screw America's original homeland security.... The personal defense weapon. It actually almost makes me want to cry that this could happen.

The only negative thing is my age, only 21. Any Illinois people in here?

Well jonathan i just wanted to say it wouldn't suprise me that if Governer (Blagoyovich, did just that,,,, i never herd any thing about him going to try that, but i moved out of ILL after he took over office.. i moved to TN were we dont have all the Sh** that you have to put up with, when it comes to your rights. If every gun owner would have went up and voted, then (Blagoyovich wouldnt be in office.. he stated before the election that he wanted to make the price of a foid card to be $250 or somthing like that ..then he said that he mite just raise the fee to $50.00 a year i dont remember,, but he clearly stated that he wanted to get rid of most guns in the state of IL. he said that if he raised the price of the f.o.i.d card, that most people wouldnt renew there card, and in the state of IL, you are not suposed to have a gun without a foid card. what i dont understand is i talked to different people that voted for him, people that want to keep there guns,, but they said that they didnt no he was like that,,,,, well we all need to see who were voting for before you go to the voting booth, and all gun owners need to vote, dont just stand there at home during voting time hoping that you get somone good in office, go in there and put your vote in, its the only way to keep them out of office. the guys i talked to said that Blagoyovich was demacrat that he was for the poor man,,,,, well i dont care if he is a demacrat or republican,, if he states that he wants to get rid of all the guns,,,, then you dont vote him into office,,,, as for your question reguarding him pulling the foid cards,,,,, just go down to you gun dealer and ask him,,,,,, trust me he will no that answer for you,,, if you do get your foid card go down and get your firearm while you still can,,,,,because he realy does want to stop all firearms being baught in ill or at least make it were the average person wont be able to afford them,, well i hope you get your f.o.i.d card. #1 if you dont have any felonies, on your record i garentee you will get it, as for him raising the price for it, it will not afect you because it will have to go through the ill sennate before it gets approved, and you have allready sent yours in before this has hapend, if you find out somthing about it please come back on and tell us about it,, sory i didn't no the answer to your question, but i guarentee your firearms dealer will. but when its time to vote make sure your registerd to vote,,, and don't go in and vote Demacrat or Republican, go on the internet and see who your voting for, read about who ever is running for office, it doesn't matter if there Demacrat or Republican, if there against people being able to defend themselves than dont vote for them,, its the only way that IL is going to change for the good.
