Hi. I'm new to the forum and I reside in Michigan. I recently bought an XD 40 at my local gun shop. The dealer was made aware by me that I was looking for a carry gun for when I get my CCW license. He told me the XD was a good chioce and that I would have no problem with using it as a carry gun. I've shot 50 rounds in it since I got it 5 days ago.
I was just looking through my yellow pages for a CCW gun safety class and found this certified instructors web site that says the following in regards to selecting a concealed carry handgun,"Recommended Semi-Auto
- Double Action Only
- Double Action with a de-cocker (with or without a manual safety)."
There is another site I got some information from that says the XD is labeled as a SA even though it is DA-like and probably a lot safer than most SA/DA handguns. It went on to say, "To be fair to IDPA, when the 1st early versions of the XD/HS-2000 came out, it was indeed marketed as a single action trigger system since the distributor did not know how to classify the newer, bio-technological innovations of the XD. There is a petition to ask IDPA to allow the XD to participate in the Stock Service Pistol Class along with Glocks and other DA pistols."
I guess my question is if anyone can expound further upon this topic and its significance to Michigan CCW laws? Is the XD still considered SA? Am I correct in thinking that I'm gonna get screwed and not be able to carry my XD as a carry gun? And who's at fault here? I understand as the consumer I have an obligation to know what I'm buying, but the seller told me I could use it as a carry gun. And to think I chose the XD over a Sig239 in part of the extra safety feature. I would also like to note I am extremely new to handguns. I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow but I'm certain he will tell me, "Sorry, there's I can do for you. Sucks to be you."
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx, Wolverine
