I've lived in michigan for many years... every time the police have anything to do with me, they take my firearms. They have taken several very nice and expensive firearms from me in the past few years. I have no felonies, the guns were all registered to me, nothing was illegal. Just as a police man can pull you over and say his reasoning was because your blinker wasn' t working though you know it was, he can also take your firearms and come up with some non-legit lame reasonings. The firearms were in my house or on my property at the time they were taken. I am convinced they either take my firearms home with them or they take them back to the station to be auctioned off, which inturn gives the police department money and helps pay their sallaries. I always make sure my firearms are legal because they are expensive and my only source of self defense. Any responses? I thought we had the rights to bear arms... especially in our own houses for self defense

Sounds like the Michigan police think about the same as most of the Michigan State Rah Rah boys we get down here in georgia. You'll find me around the internet, the rally point, or the shooting range.

Nate 313, If I may be so bold, what excuse are they using for confiscating your firearms?

nate313, More specifically, what were the actual incidences that occurred when the police confiscated your firearms? Were you carrying or at home? How many times has this happened and over what time frame? I'm curious because I live in Michigan too. Thanks bz

I live in Michigan as well and have never encountered or even heard of anyone with your problem. Cops just don't walk into someone's home and "rob" them of their firearms. Your story is...how can I say this politely?....a bit "factually challenged."

They only take your guns because you let them. Rah Rah boys like Michael Moore did this to your state; move on to greener pastures, everyone else is.

As a norm, police officers do not come into a home and confiscate guns of sane....orinary law abiding folks. Your statements only lead a few to wonder, what does this old boy eat on his cornflakes? Feeling that the police resort to gun confiscation and auction for the hell of it is little off balance. Been associating with cops on a personal level for almost 28 years. HI HO SILVER, AWAY

I agree with Sixgun. I've been around police myself all my life and with the exception of East Texas in the '70's, what nate has described certainly isn't the norm.

I would have to agree with Sixgun. I have been in Law Enforcement for 15 years and what you are relaying makes me wonder. It sounds like there might be more to the story; however, if it were true may I suggest that you should contact the Michigan State Attorney General's Office to have this investigated.

Police do not just take your guns because they want to. If they did, they had a reason to. A court order, found you were on parole or probation, had either an ex-parte, protective, or restraining order, a felony record: some underlying reason. Out here we cannot auction firearms we have to seize. We have to destroy them or release only to an FFL dealer. Many of our deputies, myself included, refuse to be part of destoying them.
