I purchased a Walther P99 .40 in early January '03. I was like you and torn between the XD40 and P99. Not being able to fire either one I had to base my decision on reviews and ergonomics. Obviously I went with the P99 because it just felt better in my hand and had tons of positive reviews. Having owned it for a little over a month now I still love it! I've put 750 rounds through it so far and haven't had a single failure! I've been shooting at 21 yards at consistently get groups about as big around as a 12 oz. coke can. I have noticed it shoots a little high with the ammo I use but have gotten used to the sights. I guess I could put the higher front sight on to bring it down but I'm too lazy ;-) Overall I am very pleased. The only thing that took some getting used to was the long first double action trigger, subsequent shots are very nice and I am now very comfortable with the first shot. My friend plans on purchasing a XD40 next month so I'll let you know when I can compare the two. If I had it to do over again I wouldn’t hesitate to buy the Walther!
