This is a great forum. I've learned much from reading your comments. As a way of eventually getting into competative target shooting, I am considering starting off with a .22 to get my feet wet. I am on a budget so I have narrowed my choices down to Walther P22, or a CZ75 .22, as the response to these seems to be good and they are in my price range. However, I have also been told to go directly into 9mm because of it being the smallest callibre for IPSC. Any thoughts from you experienced shooters would be appreciated. THX

Welcome to the forum. I wish I could give you some advice but I don't shoot competitively. The reason I am responding to your inquiry is that this forum has very little activity on it as of late for reasons I don't understand. I liked this forum when I first joined and still check it out on a daily basis but am starting to lose interest due to the lack of responses. You might notice that on some of the older posts there are lots of viewers but few responders. I think that's a shame as this is such a great medium to connect with other shooters. You might want to post your question on www.shooters.com, there is lots of activity over there and you will get answers but there is a lot of personal b.s. that goes on over there as well between people with big egos and little else to do with their time. Good luck.

Welcome, I don't shoot competitively either, but I would say if you want to start with a .22, do it. Be sure to get some instruction so you learn the fundamentals properly, and then transitioning to another, more powerful weapon shouldn't be an issue. Learn proper grip, stance, etc., but also realize that you must take all you learn and make it work for you. Sometimes there is more than one correct way to do something. If you'd rather start with a 9mm, you can probably find a full sized gun in the same price range as the .22s you mentioned. How much are you looking to spend? Later, Slick

I usually solve most of my own questions or problems by using a formula;for people with a new found interest in handguns and competitive shooting the formula goes something like this: New Interest - contact local N.R.A. chapter representative. It's amazing what the people within an organization as big as the N.R.A. can do but it comes from the support of the shooting and hunting industry;which they have some relationship with at most ranges that are sanctioned for competitive matches.Good Luck.
