Hi all, I used to own a Sig P226 & a Glock19. I am 5'6" and 110 pounds. I am buying a new gun and have narrowed it down to: Sig 239, Sig 229 & the H&K USP Compact. Does anyone have any thoughts, inputs or opinions? I would appreciate any of the above as to which you all might recommend for a small person with small hands. Thanks for any info.
Boxman
P.S. My wife who is 4'10" will also be using it, so while recoil is not a deciding factor, it is a factor to think about. Thanks again.

Hi Boxman, Those are all very fine guns. So from the standpoint of which is the better gun its a toss up. From the standpoint of which has the smaller grip that definitely goes to the Sig 239. In my opinion, the bottomline to buying any gun is; buy quality and buy what feels good to you. If none of these guns really feel good you might want to look at the Kahr products. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the input Mike. Yeah, I loved my 226, it was just waayyyyy too big for my hands. I shot very well with it, but only for a short time. My hands and wrist would start to tire. And I could see my accuracy drop off markedly.
The one I forgot to include was the Sig 2009. Can you tell I am a Sig fan. The 226 hooked me on them.

Hi Chris, I am a big Sig fan as well. I have a 229 in .40 and a 230 in .380. In my opinion Sig makes some of the finest pistols you could ever hope to find. Take care, Mike

Hi Chris, I bought a USP 9 compact over the Sig 239 for two reasons. I liked the manual safety (if you had a Glock and liked it, probably not an issue for you), and I could reach the slide release a little easier. I am thrilled with my USP, it's better than I expected. On the other hand, I liked the steel frame of the Sig better than my USPs polymer frame. The steel frame of the Sig may reduce recoil a little bit better, the USPs recoil is manageable for my wife, but she did comment on how "snappy" it is. The 239 is a great gun, and I don't think you'd be dissappointed with either. I would think the 229 wouldn't fit as nicely in your (or her) hand. Also, the 2009, IIRC, had fatter grips as well (isn't that the Sig Pro line?). Since you've had good experiences with Sig, I'd encourage you to go for the 239, then tell me how great it is so I can whine and cry about passing one up!! Please let us know what you decide. Kurt

Hi guys, well I stopped by the shop today, and they had in stock the HK USP Compact 9mm, a Sig 228, Walther P99, and a Sig 239. Personally, I liked ALL of them. However since the wife will be using it as well, I think I may be leaning towards the P99 because of the interchangeable backstraps. Although I really loved the feel of the USP 9 comp. I guess it will boil down to which one the wife likes the feel of the most, and well money too. I am not sure if she will go for me spending $800 on the HK. Although, it is an HK.
Any thought or opinions good or bad on the P99? Have not been able to find anything to read about it. Thanks. Talk to you guys soon.
Chris

Boxman, If you would consider a slightly used gun, I picked up my USPc for under $600 used. I couldn't even tell if it had been fired. Check around, if that's the gun that interests you. I can find them here (in Va.) used very frequently. On the other hand, I've NEVER seen a used P239. Hmmmmm...... As for the P99, isn't that kind of Glocky? Okay, I'll leave my personal opinions out of it! Good luck, I can't help you with the P99, I've only held one in the gunshop, and my Glockophobia got the best of me. I don't like their triggers, how is the trigger on the P99? Kurt

If your hands are that small you can narrow the field down to single stack confiquration pistols and avoid the full wrap around rubber grips, especially with finger grooves. That will put you with a Sig 239 in 40 S&W,357 SIG,or both,if you choose wisely in purchasing the extra barrel and another set of magazines.I didn't mention the 9mm because the 357 sig already has that area covered.I have seven sigs including two 229 sports, one customized, two 229s with both barrels, two 220s,and one 239 with both barrels.I carry the 239.I like the sig sauer p series pistols but I'm mostly into Colts and S&W revolvers.Get a grip on thimgs and put your money on that 239;you can thank me later.
