My 24 yro daughter fell in love with the XD. We went to look at them yesterday. It is really a fine, unique gun. There is a problem, though. Even though she has fairly strong fingers for a small girl, she couldn't release the slide. The slide release is so flat that her finger slid off it. She then picked up an H&K USP compact .40 and worked it like she'd been shooting that gun all her life. Question is: "Is it possible to put another slide release on that gun so she can depress it, instead of sliding off it. The H&K is a wonderful gun, but it's $300 more. Does anyone have any ideas I sure would appreciate some help

I still say get the H&Kc...it's a fine gun.(I seen you on the XD forum) I have both the XD.40 and HKc .40. and I like to carry the HK. I can see the quality in parts and function. I know the XD points great...grip safety (simple)...cheap I like it too. I'm just saying I trust my H&K more. If you decide on XD I don't think you made a mistake. has she shot both the 9mm and .40? Does she shoot fine with the .40 is what I'm asking?

Ok I contacted SA and they said - as of now there is *no aftermarket slide lock lever for the XD. it's important to easily and effectively use all the controls on her handgun.
Another consideration is that we XDer's don't have the greatest finish...it's called Bruniral and it is not as tough as others...

I heard the Bruniral finish isn't the greatest but its covered under SA warranty so when it starts to chip you can get it refinished for free. But its the actual fact of having to send it back thats the problem. I dont own stock in Springfield and I dont own an XD,(although I am going to pick up an XD in May) but from what I have reasearched it is a great gun. Great safety features, lifetime warranty, and for what you pay for it, its a deal. The USP is also a good gun but as you know it is more expensive. Substantially more expensive. I believe though you will be happy with either of these fine firearms. -Brian
