Just for your info, a local Boise Radio Station has begun airing ads encouraging citizens to report "illegal guns" along with a telephone number to call.
All the firearms I own, I own legally and jumped through whatever hoops I had to at the time of purchase.
I am really at a loss here, since gun laws change all the time and even I as an gun owner and formenr law enforcement officer have trouble keeping up with the changes I fail to see how a person unfamiliar with weapons can determine what is an illegal gun.
My state allows the purchase of NFA/Class III weapons so long as proper federal procedures are followed and the transfer tax is paid. That being said, I can own a fully auto and/or silenced weapon legally. How the heck is anyone gonna be able to determine if my weapon is legal other than a gunsmith or knowledgable law enforcement officer and even then after a complete records check?
I own a AR-15 Post Ban and am just waiting for some neighbor to call and send the police mistakenly to my door. I suppose they will confiscate it until they...
1. Have someone in a ballistics lab examine it for improper modification.
2. Conduct a records check
3. Research applicable laws.
Then I suppose I will have to wait until is has all been processed and the local DA determines no law has been broken and the weapon should be returned.
Man! Can I tell you my stomach is churning?
While I encourage all you you to enjoy your firearms and obey all applicable laws, if this is going on in your area, raise your voice! Call the radio station complain and boycott the station and it's sponsors.
