I just saw the movie Tears of the Sun... I saw it and I have to say I liked it. For those who think it's another Sly Stallone "Rambo", or Chuck Norris "Delta Force" type movie, it is not at all. While it certainly is not a "Black Hawk Down", it's a bit more serious and definitely not another overblown "Golan Globus "B" war movie.
I thought the audience appreciated it was a bit more heroic in the sense that the story was about doing the right thing, than seeing the heroes throw 50 million rounds of lead at the enemy without a scratch on them. It's not that type of movie.
It really annoyed me when the two high school punk kids next to me were laughing throughout the movie, laughing at the storyline's depiction of a worn torn people; laughing during the scene when a woman was getting raped; laughing until but finally clamping down a bit in the following intense and sobering scene of the other women being tortured/butchered. Had they laughed at that part I was ready to say something. Understandably they are punk kids who have no idea of the freedom their country affords them, and do not appreciate or understand what the preservation of life and humanity is all about.
Ok... I'm a bit long winded now, but go see Tears of the Sun for those who think it's another "Rambo" or Delta Force, it's not. I think with the ongoing conflict in the Middle East it, it may be the thing to watch... to remind us what our troops are doing over there.
I will end with the following quote from the movie...
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." - Edmund Burke

I also saw it... and i would agree it is a decent movie but it is definitely no black hawk down. The movie is pretty predictable and not a great story line. But overall it was pretty entertaining. Brian

Blackhawk Down is the movie to compare to?
I thought that one was contrived and corny.
Maybe it's just me........

The biggest factor that made "Blackhawk Down" significant to me is that the guys who were actually there in Somalia said the movie was very close to what really happened. I doubt downtown Mogadishu was contrived to them. "We Were Soldiers" is another that tried to stay close to actual events & characters.
While these two movies tried to stay true to actual events, people too lazy to think for themselves came away from "Pearl Harbor" thinking it was a historical documentary. Well, the Japanese did attack Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941. After that, it was a chick flick with airplanes & explosions to sucker the guys into seeing it.

Thats why I liked Black Hawk Down. It was pretty realistic and based on a true story. I think the movie did a good job of putting the audience in the chaotic action that the rangers experienced. I would recomend the book over the movie though. I can sum pearl harbor up in one word: Shit.

When I said I could sum pearl harbor up in one word: I didn't say nuts I said something else. They must have a filter on this.
