Just wondering what everybody's opinion is on aluminum cased ammo - specifically the CCI/Blazer ammo in 9mm? Anyone hear anything negative about using aluminum cased rounds?
Thanks...

I've used the cases with 44 magnum and almost had to take a hammer on the extracter rod to beat them out of the charge holes.Never messed with em since.

I find them useful in my cartrdge belts for decoration if I'm taking a photo of one of my western rigs, but that's as far as it goes.

Every officer going through the police academy here in South Florida (at least while I was there) was trained with Blazer hardball range ammo and we never had any misfires or FTE's. I used Blazers exclusively for years in .38, 9mm, and .380 (as practice ammo), and I can say the same...what's the deal? If I didn't have a friend who reloads cheaper, I'd still be using it!

Try putting it through a magnum and see what happens.

The 9mm rounds through a Beretta 92 were flawless; however, I can concure w/ DA on the .44 mag rounds...the case expands to the point of almost fusion to the cylinder. I fired 6 rounds and gave the rest away.

Everybody,
Thanks for your input. I have been trying the CCI Blazer ammo out and so far through my Sig P226, no problems (about 400 rounds).
But the input regarding using it a .44 I will keep in mind.
Thanks everybody... this is a great forum!

Mitch;I'm trying to track down a potential problem for a friend. After shooting the Aluminum cases in your 226,and cleaning your pistol, have you noticed any metal shavings around the breech area ?

Funny you should ask. I fired 300 rounds of CCI Blazer yesterday, looking closely at the breech I did notice just one little aluminum type shaving that I can honestly say I never have seen till this time. I am very diligent about cleaning my guns, especially my Sig and this is the first time I noticed something.
Did you find the same thing or something similar? Anyone else?

Someone brought me some spent .40 cases from a Sig 226,.40 S&W,the firing pin was hitting off center toward the extracter side from looking at the ejector marks.I told him to bring me the pistol;I looked in the breech area, especially the hook, and found alot of metal shavings. It appeared to be aluminum;I inspected the slide for any premature wear or scrapes but found nothing.I cleaned the pistol thoroughly, returned it with a box of brass case ammo, told him to shoot it again and bring me the spent cases. He fired the pistol this last weekend and brought the spent cases to me.This time the primer was struck dead center.I determined that the shavings were being lodged between the extracter hook and cartridge rim, also between the breech face and cartridge, creating a potentially dangerous situation. Thanks Mitch for helping to verify this for me.

Wow! I guess I will be steering away from the Aluminum stuff after all. Thanks for sharing the info. Like I said, my last outing was the very first time I noticed the one shaving in the breech area. I have fired just over 700 rounds I would say of the CCI BLazer aluminum stuff. I'll have to think twice now...

Mitch;I'm thinking due the the very sharp edges around the Barrel's chamber on the Sig,the aluminum cases might be getting shaved when entering or exiting the chamber.

I bought 600 rounds of CCI/Blazer in 40 Auto. It would shoot flawlessly until about 150 rounds were fired then I would start getting feeding failures. If I cleaned the gun it would be good for another 150. So I have mixed feelings about the ammo. I did recently order a few more boxes with a case of Win target ammo. Oh, I have a P99 40

I never had any real problem with theCCI/Blazer ammo in over 600 rounds that I used, but always wondered if i was doing any harm using an aluminum cased cheap ammo.
I have recently switched to a cleaner ammo - Winchester white box.

I have put close to a thousand rounds of Blazers thru my Sig 229 and a smaller amount thru a BHP. Have not noticed any problems at all. I reload for every other caliber, but Blazer is so cheap, why bother?
