I won't comment on the Wolf ammunition, since I don't use Russian ammunition in my pistols or rifles, and I'll leave the explaining of the "extactor" and "ejector" to gunner since he is the one who mentioned it.

I have tried this wolf 9mm 115gr. steel casing. one thing I will say "STAY AWAY ON THIS AMMO!" I tried it I bought 2 50 box each I don't wave a jam or anything but it will make your gun very dirty! it leaves sand kind of residue in it believe be after that I have to do an often field cleaning on my HK 9mm compact! stay away. if you want cheap ammo try CCI Blazer 9mm luger with a aluminum casing.

I've fired about 4000 rounds of Brown Bear ammo through my Beretta Cougar and have had no malfunctions at all. I suspect that with all the warnnings I should let a gunsmith take a look. I guess some guns are more forgiving. The Winchester white box at Wall mart does seem like a good deal.

Over the years I have learned to shoot the best ammo I can afford. Oddly, many years ago Federal was considered cheap ammo and many shooters stayed away from it. Now, it is a different story. I shoot it regularly in my 44's and 357's. My experience with Wolf and CCI/Balzer is not good. Like otherss in the forum, I suggest avoiding potential grief.

Wolf ammo is just like any other ammo manufacturer, every once in a while you are going to get a bunk round. Wally World does have a good deal with the 100 round boxes of Winchester and it is decent shooting ammo. www.sportsmansguide.com and www.cheaperthandirt.com has some of the best ammo prices around if you want to buy in bulk. I bought some cheap German manufactured 32 ammo for my CZ50 and it shot like a dream, on the other hand I ran out and bought two boxes of UMC 32 ammo and had 6 failures to load right in a row and even pushed the bullet into the shell casing on a couple of rounds, so at the moment I am NOT a big fan of the UMC ammo. Extractors, Ejectors, slides, barrels and just about every other part of a gun are going to wear NO MATTER what ammo you shoot. Always be safe and inspect your weapon before and after shooting it, and if you feel it is un safe than please have it inspected by a knowledgeable Gunsmith.

I read on one forum that the Wolf Ammunition had Steel Jacketed bullets with a copper wash and would damage back stops at most indoor ranges. We had incidents of people using steel core bullets and our indoor rifle range and it took many months to convince the manager and owners to restore the area because they feared it would just happen again.

Another major problem with Wolf and any other steel case ammo is expansion. After shooting for a while and the gun gets warmed up the steel casings will get stuck in the chamber. This is probably amplified by the rapid crap buildup from Wolf ammo too. The case maybe similar with aluminum casings, but I've had no experience with it.

Save the russian ammo for russian weapons. The only thing I shoot Wolf out of is an AK or my SKS; it's just not worth the possibility of mishap or damage to your weapon.

I bought a case of the Wolf stuff a while back and in some ways I'm dissapointed. I've run several thousand rounds of Brown Bear 9mm and about a thousand rounds of the Winchester White box and have had zip problems. But now, since I have the wolf, they keep getting jammed up in my magazines. My theory is that the laquer they put on them keeps them from sliding up and feeding properly. It has actually turned out to be a great practice tool for clearing a malfunction to the point of having to eject the entire magazine and using the backup from my belt. Before I never could practice clearing jams cause my pistol never would.
I also notice a lote of shiny crap on the rails after I shoot the Wolf stuff. My eyes aren't good enough but I suspect it's flakes from the metal casings.
All in all, I'll probably dump the other 15 or so boxes I have left and stick with the Winchester. Some educations are expensive and some only cost a few bucks.

I had experienced a few problems with a Star .40-caliber, but the number of failures to eject really skyrocketed while using Wolf ammo supplied by the range during qualification shooting following a CCL class. I finally had to send the gun to a gunsmith to look at and he has yet to get it back into good working order. Coincidence? Maybe.

I'll step to the defense of the much maligned Wolf ammunition! ;D After reading about the mishaps and bad juju some of you have gotten on your semi-auto handguns using this ammo, I've sworn off it for my CZ-75b, but I must comment that while using it in this gun, I had NO jams, NO misfires, and it was pretty accurate to boot. I did notice that it was sparking (but only noticed because I was at an indoor range) so CZ-75 is on a strictly brass-only diet from now on. Don't want to have a hefty vet bill, or worse, untimely euthanasia! Also, the 7.62x39 Wolf ammo I use in my SKS has performed flawlessly. It is accurate, surefire ammo. I guess it really all matters about the guns. If you have robust Eastern European junkyard dogs with iron stomachs like I have, it really almost doesn't matter what you feed them. Feed them and clean them, and they're happy. If, on the other hand, you have finicky German fufu dogs that must be on a very special diet, steel-cased ammo is no bargain at all.
