Since I haven't gotten into reloading yet, I'm always looking for the least expensive ammo of good quality for the Range. I buy the more expensive HP's for home protection. Wolf is one of the cheapest in 9mm I've seen, but, being of steel casing, I've had more than one gunsmith tell me to avoid it...allegedly it can be hard on extractors. Anyone have good or bad luck with this Russian ammo? I have a newer CZ 75B and usually shoot Sellier&Bellot or Winchester FMJ 115g. Thanks!

If you have had more than one gunsmith tell you to stay away from Wolf ammo I would take their advice. My personal opinion, for what its worth, is that I want to take care of my guns as best I can and if that means using ammo that costs a little more then so be it. I would rather spend a few cents more on ammo than have my gun meet an early demise or need repairs due to the use of cheap ammo. Just my .02, Mike

Hi, again!
You've helped crystalize my thoughts regarding Wolf ammo -- the deal is, an aquaintance of mine is trying to convince me that Wolf ammo is safe because he bought a load of it and is now hoping to sell to anyone with a 9mm! Guess I'll stick to Winchester, Remington, etc.
Best regards!

I can't help you with Wolf ammo, I've never used it. But their are some ammo companies that sell at wholesale prices. Try Miwall. They have a good web site.

Stay away from cheap ammo. You'll regret it if you don't. I promise.
I tried that steel cased Russia junk in one of my 9mm's a Smith & Wesson 639 or 649 (can't recall) Anyway, first round Jambed it. The case got stuck in the barrel.
It took a lot of force to free the slide and when I did it tore the extractor clean off. I forget what it cost to have it fixed, Smith & wesson wont send you parts like Browning ans some of the others will. So it was off to the factory for 8 weeks.
Not that I learn things the hard way. but I made that mistake again. Bought some crap called "Olympic" Ammo.
Different pistol, different problem, but the gun had to go to a gunsmith for repair.
Trust me. You wont save a dime using cheap ammo.

Sorry about that. I too bought some cheap russian ammo called Brown Bear. When I got to round 44 the casing failed to extract and I couldn't get the slide open. With many attempts by the range armorer, he finally got it open and said that the casing fused to the barrel. Now my Glock 19 is at the manufacturer waiting a new one. The tech guy at Glock said that the ammo casued hairline splits in the inside of the barrel. Never again will I be so stupid and cheap. I've got a 50 round box left if anyone wants it

I have shot nearly 500 rounds of Wolf .40 cal through my Glock 23 and have only had one round fail. Apparently the primer came out of one of the rounds or was not in there to begin with. But it stuck in the chamber and was hard to get out. But otherwise no problems. I don't know if I'm wearing out the extractor or not, but it doesn't seem to be causing any problems with extraction or anything else so far.

Check Wal -Mart - they have the best priced 9mm ammo. $6.47 for a box of 50 - UMC. That's the best deal in town for 9mm in my area.

I was also warned away from Wolf by pretty much everybody I asked (for semi-auto handguns, anyway). I took that seriously, because 9mm is cheap enough anyway, and cinsidering a decent handgun will cost you $400 - $900, I think they deserve better than that. ;D You can't really beat the 100 round "Target Pack" of Winchester ammo Walmart sells for 11$ !! It's a quality manufacturer, good ammo, and is brass cased so it's easy on the extractors! Check and see if they carry it in your local Walmart, they should. If not, ask them about ordering some! That's about $5.50 per box of 50, that's tough to beat. I have found Sellier and Beloit ammo online for under $5 a box, but then there's shipping costs, and it works out to about the same as the Winchester White box from Walmart (unless you order a LOT at once). I have also found 9mm NATO, which is nice and zippy, for under $7. It's fun to order once in a while, but I stick with the WW for practice, so I can practice a lot. Hope that helps, Kurt

I have shot over 2000 rd's of wolf ammo with my AR-15 (DPMS) and had no problem's at all, and well over a 1000 with a ruger p-89 9 mm and again no problem's. The only ammo i had trouble with was the brass case ammo. If you are concernd with damage to your wepon inspect it! Also the extactor is not what is damaged it would be the ejectors

I'm looking for some good target shooting ammunition for my Kimber .45.How much does the Wolf costs per box and can you tell me more about the extactor and the ejector? I just purchased my kimber last week and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.I still have alot to learn about some things.

I've seen the Wolf Ammunition for 9mm as low as $5.99 and $7.99 for .45 ACP locally in Southern California, 50 Rds. for each.
But if you are looking for 9mm, try Wal-mart - Winchester White Box - $10.56 - 100 Rds.
Addendum: Do I use Wolf? No... I have heard too many bad things about it as well. I would use CCI/Blazer over the Wolf stuff any day, but my new target practice load is the Winchester White box - best deal in town and cleaner for my "puppies".
