yes, but it is a bit self feeding. If you take out all of the comments about thread length, bumps, and page annunciations, we're probably back to about 8 pages ;D

Once a thread(zilla) starts growing on you, you have to feed it - just like a pet that lives in your house.

I almost forget what the thread was about, until I back up to find out.Mitch finally settled in on a Springfield Loaded 1911;he found it at a very good price. He ended up paying the same for this one that he would expect to pay for a new pistol with far less to offer.

ML is right about the thread feeding; If we took out the thread I'm putting now,his thread, and some others that pertain to the feeding frenzy,we would have only an infant threadzilla.

You guys have GOT to read the shooter joe thread! ;D Here's an exerpt. And speaking of trigger, you might get a kick outta this. Yes it came outta the box with a nice crisp 5 lb trigger pull, but that ain't good enough for me. I does my own trigger jobs, and what you see here is a nylon variant that I dremeled down to just the right size to accomodate my short stubby forefinger. It really makes a diference when your dealin with sub-.20 second split times 6 shot strings. See, the trigger is the exact perfect lenght so when I pulls back, it neither deviates to the left or the right but trigger comes straight back. High tech, low cost. I like to call it hand-milled trigger. And the trigger job itself consisted of carefully trimming the hammer hooks to 0.18, polishing the sear, polishing the dicsonnector, and lightening the tension on the 1st and 2nd sear fingers. All in all it gives me a consistent 2.5-3.0 lb pull with a real crisp break and so far no hammer following. www.jouster.com/cgi-bin/pistol/pistol.pl?read=19301

Sure, it's self feeding.
But it's like a "campfire" thread, where one topic serves as a running talk festival......
All we have to do is talk about guns every so often, and it stays relevant.

The thread can be re-named to just the "1911 thread" or we need to dedicate a new 1911 sub category.

I've been so busy with work and family that I haven't had time to spend quality time with my new Springer yet. MSBLAST and NACHI viruses been keeping us busy at work doing "PD" - prevent defense on our systems. I got my Brownells catalog! Everyone you must get one! I'm looking at all the tools and parts available and it's just an awesome catalog. Dubblection, what do you use to polish your bores? I'm looking at J-B bore Bright (page 248 in the catalog). I can see where my slush fund maybe going towards now for the next few months - buying tools for my tool box, LOL! Also do you recommend the Accupro Pro Jags ? (page. 247), I'm thinking of buying the set. I saw they had no specific Pro Jag for 9mm, doe sthat mean one of the other jags will be ok to use with 9mm?

The Brownells catalog.
One of the last great catalogs.
Huge, and packed full of good stuff.
I read it like a book. It's a good read. ;D
A must have.

One thing that I noticed on the functions test that is defintely a Big No No;When testing a pistol's functions, prior to purchase, never drop the slide, allowing it to slam home on an empty chamber. This is bad on the barrel hood, lugs, and breech face;I always use weighted dummy rounds for this test.I know it is one sure fire way to test hammer follow, but it is bad for the pistol, and not a safe practice when handling another man's pistol. ;D

Yeah I agree, I wouldn't dry fire without a snap cap if I can help it, and actually the guys at the counter I notice cringe when people dry fire, so now I make it a habit to ask first, which they are happy about and then break out the snap caps.

Guys;If you asked permission to drop the slide on an empty chamber, the pistol will probably be taken from you at that point. The hammer hooks, sear, and disconnector are small items to replace, the frame, barrel, and slide is what counts the most on a used 1911,if it's to be a shooter.
