Since this thread is about 1911’s I thought I would ask if any one has any experience with the polymer frame Kimber TEN II series. I’m currently in the predicament of trying to decide on a .45, and I had a chance to get hold one in my hand at one of my local gun shops. I can’t really say that I was very taken by the pistol. I think that if I wanted to have a 1911 I want to FEEL like I am holding a 1911. I am also in the same fix that the original poster of this thread was in (Kimber or Springfield) and I’m thinking I may come to the same conclusion. I had a chance to fire the Mil-Spec at my local range since they have it for rental, and I have to say that I liked it. Now I guess I need to figure out If I want to go the 1911 route, or chose a different semi auto and buy a 1911 later. -Photoguy

Photoguy;I really have to offer my own honest opinion regarding the 1911 frames, and hope I won't offend anyone. The polymer frames on the 1911 is something new and innovative,as is with the Double Action triggers. It is not very difficult to find a steel frame 1911,or one built on the alloy aluminum frame.Kimber offers the 1911 on the alloy frame also, and you will probably be better off with applying replacement parts for these frames in the future,as opposed to the polymer frame. The 1911's popularity in the civilian market has risen primarily because of it's ease in modifying and customizing, and most aftermarket suppliers cater to the steel or alloy frames in accessories and parts. If I were to exercise the options for a polymer frame pistol,I would look at a different pistol design.I think Mitch ended up with one of Springfield's Loaded Models for around $500. on the New but Used,Previously Owned Market.

Thanks DA. If I go with a 1911 I have a feeling that it will be with one of those two brands. I can get the Springfield Mil-Spec for $479 (I think) at one of my local dealers. But like you have said in another thread before I think, there are way too many good guns available in .45 ACP. I don’t know if I will buy the 1911 first, but I am sure I will own one eventually. -Photoguy

Photoguy; You've got plenty of time, exercise patience and common sense and it will all come in time.Even though it is mostly about wants, there are some things you will want but never really need in a collection.

Mitch, I've been shooting 1911's for about 15 years, I've had several 1911's and currently own a Para-Ordnance P14, and a Norinco, they both shoot well. You have made a good choice with a Kimber, I have shot a High Cap. Polymer frame Kimber, Super nice gun, Enjoy which ever one you get.

You can't go wrong with a 1911. I've had quite a few. My present carry gun is either a Colt 70 Series(reissued) or a Springfield WWII. Of course, we are talking about one Hi-end(expensive) and one Low-end(less-expensive. The Colt was $937(including tax) and the Springfield was $434(including tax). So, go ahead and pick one(Kimber's are nice, but I don't want a match-grade pistol for the street), and go nuts. Whatever you get, enjoy

I see nothing wrong with a 1911. I have quite a few of them, myself. I have a repo 70Series(the one from the cusom shop.) I love the thing. It is the only 1911 that I will carry. I've got a friend of mine trying to get me to carry one of my Kimbers. I have carried other guns but always come back to the Colt. It's reliable and has never failed to bang when the hammer is dropped
