Thanks to threads like this one by Mitch;I find myself also looking for a good choice.Looking at the big picture;in the money savings range,I would look at the Springfield Loaded model in carbon steel, and use the Springfield CRG Model as a blue print for performance enhancements in the future. That is one of the better options that I would put on my own list.

I have to be honest I just dont see the big deal in the 1911 club, I'v had a few and made a nice buck when it got time to sell them, other than that there just OK. As far as the Glock bashing its foolish the Glock beats all of them hands down, weight, ease of use ,power , and so many rounds. The 19 is the best period. Even pilots in Desert Storm left the Berettas home and brought there own Glocks. The Glock has half as many parts and weighs less loaded then most of the others do empty. Sorry 1911 boys but you know its true...........

Sailboat; This news deeply saddens me,and I know it saddens so many of the other few 1911 boys out there,to sudenly find this news to them.I reckon I had better hurry and get down to get a descent trade in before this news reaches the 1911 gun boy dealers as well. Thanks for helping us out here.

HogRider,I wouldn't want to contribute to you becoming just another delinqent child of the 1911.If I'm going to down right cheat someone,I'd rather do it to an individual who desearves it.Thanks anyways,I appreciate your kind offer, but I got myself into the 1911 boys, and I'll just have to chalk up my own losses.Maybe I can catch one of those gun turn in events,at least I'll get something for them.

Hey Dubble I didnt mean to make you sad, I'v shot them , owned them and fooled with them, but I never saw the big deal..in the 1911. I know your only being sarcastic but this is a chat site and thats my view. When the Glocks first came out I viewed them as new, not untill I owned the first one and carried it I realized how great they really were. In Florida its not as easy to hide a gun under clothes never mind a heavy one. I shot HK's & Sigs and there OK too but the Glock is just it. I know the 1911 club is a religous outfit and the gun writers fill pages with 1911 stuff, you even have a few guys who are viewed as Gods to the 1911 boys dont take it personal .... its only a chat site..... later'

There are many arguments for the 1911 design and the .45 ACP round. Durability, reliability, accuracy and simply the history behind the design itself. Glock makes a fine combat weapon and I assure you, a good 1911 and 8 (or more) rounds of .45 ACP will also meet the need and has many times over the past 90+ years.
"The 19 is the best period"
The "best" at what? Everything? That is just a silly statement. You are definitely entitled to your opinion, but it seems that you are trying to start a flame war.
"Glock bashing" Where?

Opinions are sometimes convincing depending on those who are willing to accept them as fact.I've paid my dues to more than one club,as with most others here. What is great to some is just not it with others;nothing here is to offend any particular choice of handgun,or it's intended purpose of use. This thread in the direction of the 1911,for the user he might have another use or application than someone else.I have nothing against Glocks,I've shot a few and find them light, fairly mild recoils, the triggers are not the monsters I heard rumors of,and for me,I have no trouble finding it's use applicable as a defensive carry pistol at close range.

forget about glock vs 1911. if you like it buy it but dont make other people to dislike what you do not like. if you're a vegetarian, fine, but dont make me a vegetarian. i want meat. so anyway, i bought both. G17 and SA1911. Will add Kimber soon.
so, where are the 1911 pics? just post the pics for the original thread poster!

Gee... I think I'm right behind Dubbleaction in line for that Glock, yeah the last 5 months of researching and wanting the 1911 in my collection I'll just let it all go down the tubes... LOL! SailboatMike, welcome to the Forum and with all due respect... Those who know me in this forum will know my feelings about Glocks. I have shot the 19 if I recall correctly and honestly I never saw or felt any connection with the Glock, I opted for the Sig Sauer P226 back during my 9mm search, and even then I ended up keeping an HK. While I don't think much of Glocks, I don't berate them because many love them and I respect that. Every gun in my collection I keep because partly I like the way they look and feel, but in the end they stay in my collection because I shoot well with them. Now for the 1911... I have the 1911 bug because having shot a couple 1911s and doing my research I have come to respect it's design. In my collection I wanted my .45 caliber to be a 1911. I like the fact it's a classic John Browning design and beloved by many. I like the fact that it is a design adopted by many manufacturers and it's basic design has stood the test of time. Because of that it makes it an instant classic and for me something I want in my collection. And actually when I started this thread it was never meant to be a 1911 vs. "X" thread. It was a thread for those to follow who are bitten by the 1911 bug as well... But SailbotMIke, I may even surprise myself one day and have another look at Glocks, maybe I just never found one connected with. MHS

And to answer the post, what did I get? I am in the middle of the transaction, before I mention it I would like to make it official that it will be mine before announcing it. It is in transit to my FFL, I should be inspecting it this Monday or Tuesday. When I put it on the 10 day wait period, I will announce my choice. I didn't mean to build any type of drama for this but it's been a long journey to my road in finding and choosing it as my entry level 1911 that I hope I do not dissappoint. Those who have followed this thread can probably guess what I got and there is no surprise entry as it was one of my two front runners. I have a pic of it, but I think I can do it better justice when I get it in my hands. MHS
