LOL! I think it may have segwayed into something else, but I was just noticing that, I think it's the "1911 Effect", ... that sounds like a great science project. LOL!

I reckon this thread could be, as Callahan put it,it's own Homepage, on the 1911.When I was a Kid a weekly series came on, called "Combat",it was about these soldiers fighting during WW II in Europe,it starred Vic Morrow. The 1911A1 was the featured pistol, off course, with a Luger or P-38 every now and then. The biggest thing was the toy 1911s and the Crossman Pellet pistol that looked and felt like the 1911,all the way down to the thumb safety for the slide to be cocked, and the magazine release that worked the trigger safety.By the time I grew up,I already knew how to operate the controls on most every handgun because of my extensive training as a child with the detailed replica toys.

Back in the days of "Combat", I had a realistic plastic 1911. For the life of me, I can't remember which toy company made it. The had a whole series of guns and they were all very realistic, except for the weight.
It might have been Mattel.
I wish I still had it.

Mattel and Marx were two big ones, but there were other ones that were better with the metal. My brother was pretty good at spotting them when we were kids,he had a Walther PPK and a Luger that was all Die Cast, black finish, with authentic brown plastic checkered grips.Alot of toy replicas were out there at one time, especially the cowboy and military stuff.

Dubbleaction,
My brother and I used to have I think the Mattel version of the combat gear, it had the helmet, plastic knife, rucksack, utility belt with holster, a Thompson Sub machine gun, and of course the 1911. It was funny I remember finding it up in my parents closet, they were trying to hide it for Christmas, but boys being boys we stumbled upon it. Then my friend down the street had that die cast Luger that was pretty sweet.
I remember that show "Combat", and the BBC Documentary World at War which was all WWII footage and history. Pretty good stuff.

It pretty funny to watch Combat nowadays.
When I was a youngster, it was SO real.
I watched an episode a couple months ago, and it was SO corny.
Rat Patrol is another one that shows its age.

Since we've segwayed towards 1911s in history/movies and etc., how about "Band of Brothers". Excellent exceelent Series from HBO. YOU HAVE to watch it if you have not yet, my Dad got the DVD set, it's a keeper.

Yea;I rember those Tommy Guns, you would pull back on the charging handle and it powered the rat tat ta bar as it moved foward. The drum magazine version was real popular.I've been working on the Club House over at the 1911 Boys Club.I finally got into putting a little into the pictures.I re-did my album, and added an update to the Pistol Profiles;that takes alot of time.I think this is message 100 on this thread,or close.
