Am I hearing flack ? Did someone mention my name in the same context as Bentleys? Gentlemen, Drawing lines in the sand will simply not do on this forum.

I've heard this forum referred to as primarily a SIG / 1911 group. But looking at the current stats, it's remarkably even (aside from those poor Berettas) ;D

ML, When I first came on board the Sigs or the 1911s were seldom mentioned, the .357 sig was even noted as being a marketing ploy ;D, the 1911s was even less popular here because few owned one, or knew very little of what they had in one. I just came on talking to myself until others came in with interests.I have only gotten spewed on a few times, but just isolated incidents. We will talk about revolvers when it gets going.

Well; Sorry to disappoint you guys but, I voted for Colt. Not for the 1911 alone, but the many other handguns that they manufactured, such as the Single Action Army .45, The Colt Python, The Colt Detective Special, and all those Colt handguns that I have yet to own. I grew up idolizing the Colts and Smith & Wesson's magnums, and some things just never seem to change.

I remember when I was first shopping for my first gun.
I held a buddy's P220 two tone and was dazzled; I thought, "this just feels like a gun should feel to me."
Afterword I went down to the local discount gun shop and saw a P220 SST (Stainless) and loved the look, loved the weight, everything. The salesman then showed me HKs, Walthers, and a Glock or two. They all were nice, but just didn't have that feel.
He knew I liked the Sig, but was hesitant to drop that wad of cash on it. So he says to me, "Ok, go check around in gun mags, the internet, wherever, and tell me if you can find one bad review or comment on this gun whatsoever. If you do, don't buy it."
Intrigued by this show of confidence in the product, I did just that. I came on this board and asked around, I looked in magazines, I did searches for reviews. I didn't find a single negative report. The only other fullsizes I've seen that can say that, in my mind, are the extremely high-end 1911s (Wilson, Les Baer, etc.) and the HK USP. And both of those cost more. The 1911s a LOT more.
So I went and plunked down my cash and walked away the proud owner of a brand new Sig P220 SST, and the newest exerciser of our second amendment rights. I shot it, and confirmed everything that I felt instictively. It even outshot the alloy P220 I had tried. Everything worked like butter, and the first time you throw a .45 down range is simply sublime.
Jonathan, let's here your story with the P99. We know you love it, we know all about the measurement and stats of the gun, we know the rags' evaluations. We want to know how YOU fell in love with the gun.

We know you love it, we know all about the measurement and stats of the gun, we know the rags' evaluations. We want to know how YOU fell in love with the gun. Okay here goes... Me and my buddy were riding our bikes (motorcycles) not heading any particular direction when we passed North Shore Galleries (the gun shop in which my dad bought his stainless S&W .357 Mag.). I always wanted a gun and I then realized that I was 21 and could legally if registered own a handgun. So I told my friend that we were going to stop at Shore Gallaries to check out the guns. As I walked through the shop looking through the glass counter I scanned for a gun in which grabbed me. I passed the Sigs, passed the Glocks, passed the H&Ks, passed the 1911s and Berettas when all of a sudden...BAM!! Holy music played in the background of my mind as my eyes pierced what appeared to be the greatest looking gun I have ever laid eyes on...the Walther P99. As I sat there drooling over the glass counter fixxated on the P99 I thought to myself, Jonathan, you've got to figure out a way to make this happen. My friend Frank who is only 18 asked the guy at the counter ignorantly if they had the Desert Eagle. He responded by saying: "Do you guys have your FOID cards?" We didn't so he asked us to go leave that section of the shop and come back with FOID cards. So I registered that very same day and road to Borders and bought all the gun magazine known to man. Read every article and did research on the Walther P99 to make sure it was more than just a pretty face. I wasn't about to buy a gun just because it "looked cool". It turns out that the Walther P99 was much more than a pretty face. I read nothing but excellent reviews of this gun and the history of Walther. I knew then that this would be a gun that I could be proud of. But it wasn't until I actually held and shot the gun when I realized that this was the gun of my dreams. Talk about precision engineering...this gun felt so solid in my hand. When I pulled the trigger I felt in control of the power as it fit my hand like a glove. I knew that day that I was going to buy this gun if it was the last thing I did. I then researched the other big boys on the block...the Glocks, Sigs and H&Ks. The Sigs, great guns but they didn't stand out of the crowd in my opinion. The Sigs didn't grab me like the Walther did. I read great things as well about the H&K but I found them so unattractive. I read raving reviews about the Glock as it was supposed to be the super gun. Then I came here and a bunch of guys trashed talked so I didn't give the Glock more thought until I fired it. The Glock amazed me in that it was so much easier to shoot than all the others. I shot well with the Glock and new that I would also have to buy one. The only thing about the Glock and Sig that bothered me was that it seemed like everyone had one. That turned me off a little. I wanted something special, something exotic. Exoctic wise it was between the Walther and the H&K. Both guns are top of the line so it came down to looks in which the Walther won hands down in my book. So I bought the Walther P99 and I'm extremely happy I did. I want to buy another P99 in .40 though. I also would like to buy a couple of Glocks and Sigs...the Baby Desert Eagle also caught my attention. Maybe down the road I'd like to buy the P7 as I hear its a fun gun to shoot. With those guns, my collection would be perfect in my opinion. PS. There was a lot more to my story. That was sort of the fast forward version. I did extensive research and put a lot of time and thought into my decision for a first gun. I believe the first of anything important is special and that I wasn't going to comprimise with this decision. I would have bought the P99 for $3,000 if I had to. No price was going to stop me. I felt I stole the gun for $674...I'm extremely happy with my decision.

Hats off to you D/A for your comments about Rugers. Your objectivity shows you hold the wisdom of the ages and perhaps those young pups ;D will realize experience is the best teacher.

Flipper; The very first centerfire handgun I fired was a Ruger .357 magnum Blachawk, the cylinder had only one shot remaining when my older cousin offered it up to me.Both my Father and Cousin had been shooting at this pine cone, with no hits, I had been shooting many variations of pellet and BB pistols for several years, and I knew this gun would have recoil. I took aim at the bottom of the pine cone, squeezed the trigger, and with one shot the pine cone was gone. The first .44 magnum I ever fired was a Ruger Super Blackhawk, and from over twenty five yards out I was hitting ten rings with this gun with no prior experience with this cartridge. Ruger Single Actions are very smooth revolvers. The more I think about it, the more I want another one. My brother just bought two Customized Rugers, one was built by Jack Weigand.

I want to buy another P99 in .40 though. Jonathan, I just picked up the P99 in .40. One of the aesthetic differences is that it does not have the milled out section of the slide in the front. I kind of like that attribute in the 9mm version, but I like the .40 cartiridge more...

It seems to me that some of you are buying guns judged mainly by its looks. Ive always thought that buying a gun that your are comfortable shooting (accuratly), feels good in your hand, and is very dependable. You know, so if you every really need to use it for protection, youll know that it will work perfectly at any time. This is why I choose HK. HKs and Sigs are in a league of there own, and HKs are lighter and dare I say, more dependable?! I know lots of guys with Sigs and lots with HKs, and the only failure you feed Ive heard of in an HK is one of the rentals at the range that hadnt been cleaned for a while. But my friends Sigs seem to jam on certain ammo (depending on the brand). Never heard of that with an HK. Oh yeah, and the Glocks have the best finish hands down.
