It wasn't but a year ago,on this very forum, that the 1911 was seldom spoken of by many message posters. Most of the pistols were those of the 9mm variety, and some of the .40 S&W.We evolved into discussions of the .357 sig,Revolvers, and some began showing a serious interest in the 1911.A year ago I would not have recommended the 1911 to someone unfamiliar with it's functional design, and method of operation. It took talking about the 1911 to finally conclude that it's one of the safest pistol designs offered in a semi automatic.

DA,
I remember what you are talking about, last year when I first joined I remember reading that post suggesting the 1911 NOT be a first time buyer's gun of choice. Actually I still stick to that for the fellows I introduce to our sport that are totally brand new, I suggest something with a DA pull tos tart off with.
Yes it's great to see that the topcis have always been changing and lively, once in awhile we'll go into different directions with other social topics like movies and etc...
I woud like to suggest that we have two more categories. One dedicated to the 1911 Talk, and another category called the "Lounge" for our off handgun topics. Maybe we can petition the owner/administrator to set it up. ;D

Those 2 or more categories would definitely be a good thing. I'll sign the petition.

The Lounge and the 1911 Room. I like that. No lounge lizards, though.

I I finally took out "Jerry", renamed my Springfield to Jerry since I sometimes call it a Springer. I can say I like it very much. I wasn't as good as I wanted to be at the range last night, it has been almost 3 months since I fired at t he range, but near the end at closing time I was starting to find my groove again. I have to say I am getting used to the .45 and for the first time I would say I think I was about the same with the .45 as I was with my 9mm. The Springfield performed flawlessly, I had given it a good cleaning and all worked well, no jams no hiccups. We broguht my newbie friend to the range so he could test fire what we had. We had 5 pistols that we shot last night, my HK USP9F, my Springield 1911 Loaded, and my S&W Modell 22a, my brother brought his Kimber Tactical 1911, and his HK USP9c. I should have went head to head more between my Sprigner and the Kimber. My brother's Kimebr shot very nicley, I think it just need to be worked in a little, but his trigger pull definitely felt lighter than on my Springer. With a little more work on my Springer it will be where I want it to be, I have to say between the the Kimber and Springer I felt like I shot about even with them, one was not clearly better than the other. Well a couple of things for sure, I'm becoming a .45 caliber guy and Ihtink I want another 1911 - ;D

Mitch; If you send that Springfield down to King's Gunworks for an action job,you will see a big difference. One of their Target Bushings would help too, especially if they fit it.There are other good Pistolsmiths located throughout California.

I love .45ACP. I have guns of other calibers but for some odd reason I just shoot better in .45 caliber, better than in .40 S&W and slightly than in 9mm. I know the feeling Mitch, I felt it after I shot a Charles Daly DDA in .45 and I still have that same feeling when I shoot my Colt. ;D

The kid working at my gun range told me some news, some legislation I think for CA to take effect in 2006 - to have all handguns sold with a de-cocker along with all the other required safety features current. That would mean the Glocks and 1911s would no longer be allowed to be sold in stores in CA! Imagine that ! If that is really so, or is being proposed, well I know my goal will be to buy as many 1911s as I can till that day, the others I can always collect later. ;D Makes me mad if this happens, but one good thing... it's an excuse to buy 1911s for now ;D

DA, I am thinking about it, I think I want to shoot the Springer a bit more and get more of a feel where it's at. King's I would like to try, but do you know of one closer to San Diego . I have a serious crush on .45acp. I would not completely dump the 9mm since it's so economical, but I think I am loving the 1911 way too much - lol! I am already thinking of the next one maybe in stainless - hopefully a Colt! But I also want to sell my S&W22 and replace it with a 1911 in .22 caliber. Another project in the horizon!

Hey Mitch, just out of curiosity: Did you ever get any word on maybe getting the forum expanded like we mentioned a little bit earlier in this thread?

Mitch;Since it would be wise to spend your money on the 1911s now, instead of waiting for the California Ban Wagon to arrive, you could spend your time learning how to do your own action jobs and part parts installing.Nowlin and Cylinder & Slide have 3 1/2 lb. drop in Trigger Action Kits, which include the Hammer,Sear,Sear Spring, and Disconnector that are pre prepped and polished.
