Interesting news, S&W is recalling their 1911 because of some problem with the firing pin plunger. CHeck out the website at: www.smith-wesson.com/CatalogManual/sw1911recall.htmJust thought everyone should know. I don't think anyone here owns a SW1911, but it's something to know about. DA; I've been thinking about doing my own work on a 1911 and I'm planning on starting a project, not on my Colt, but maybe something cheaper, like one of those Firestorms or llamas. I'm pretty familiar with the 1911 action mechanism but nothing beats a hands-on dissassembly and re-assembly. So in this regard, where can I get more information on how to work on a 1911? -ct

Another 1911 joins my family...... Here's a couple quick shots of the NRM Commander I picked up this morning. It's very nicely made, with a nice satiny blue. The trigger is long, but I like them long. It does not "rattle" like some I've heard of. The break is very crisp with NO creep. Slide to frame fit is excellent, and there are no machine marks, or rough spots. The grips are a nice, grained, Rosewood. I'm quite impressed with the quality of this pistol. It is the fourth Colt I have purchased in the last year, and in spite of what some diehard Colt Bashers think, Colt has really "turned it around" in the last year or so. I'll put up a range report after I take it shooting.

CT;Rather than use Diagrams and drawings,I used the actual parts to provide a description of the functions, disassembly, and assembly of the 1911 frame. It is best to start with enlarging the first thumbnail photo, and hitting "NEXT" at to top of the page to advance from one page to the next.

Roger;Things are changing at Colt, especially with the 1911,since William Keyes became CEO.He stated in an interview that Colt will be going after a fair share of the 1911 market.I'm glad to see them building some fine pistols again;I think I missed out on the bad apples from Colt.

I'm kinda ravingmad at CA again! I just heard that legislation is going to be brought up where that by 2006 ALL semi-auto handguns sold in CA will require a decock and firing pin indicator, this would make 1911s and Glocks at present no longer sellable!!!!! If this is so - I haven't researched or confirmed it yet... but looks like my goal will be to collect as many 1911s before that time!

I can't imagine who would benefit from such legislation. Decock levers and loaded chamber indicators are shooter benefits, not anti-crime tools. The anti-gun crowd usually goes for more drastic goals. It's like requiring all vehicle manufacturers to supply cup holders.

The anti's seem to think THEY are the gun experts. Also, they may be trying to just keep making it more difficult and narrow down the available guns legal to sell. Muddy the waters...

Hmm...sounds like a crock of bull to me, but maybe, JUST maybe, there is some logic to their madness. Situation: bad guy pulls a gun on you. Because his/her gun as a de-cock lever on it, you might be able to get your hand on the slide and press the de-cock lever down before he/she pulls the trigger. Gosh, what will we do with these anti's?

mitch; I'm thinking the legislators just want to make the guns in CA as safe (?) and as wimpy (definitely) as possible. For example, .50 AE guns aren't on the CA roster list. This has nothing to do with crime as you can perpetrate a crime with a .45, which is sellable in CA. The decock lever and the chamber indicator would make them more user-friendly I guess. oh I don't know...
